Jesse Coley Obituary

Jesse G Coley, 88, of Wytheville, Va., passed away on Monday, November 23, 2009. He was born on May 7, 1921, in Speedwell, Va., son of the late Henry and Lilly Dunford Coley. He was a member of Bakers Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended Full Gospel Bible Mission. He was a United States Army World War II veteran (invasion of France, landed at Normandy Beach) and a member of Grover King Post #1115, VFW. He was retired from RAAP after 32 years of service as a security guard. His hobby was farming and he dearly loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Laura M. Coley, of the home; one son, Stanley Coley, of Christiansburg, Va.; one daughter, Betty and Edward M. Dowdy, of Wytheville, Va.; one brother, Paul and Faye Coley, of Wytheville, Va.; four sisters, Ruth Holiday, of North Carolina, Annabel Arnold, of Fries, Va., Arlee White, of Hillsville, Va., and Emily Sue Perez, of Hillsville, Va.; four grandchildren, Phillip Coley, Michael Dowdy, Matthew Dowdy and Mark Dowdy; and six great-grandchildren, Jesse and Chase Coley, and Trevor, Julie, Gabriel and Maci Dowdy. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009, at the Full Gospel Bible Mission with the Rev. Hal Lewis and the Rev. Bobby Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church on Friday, November 27, 2009, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
