My heartfelt prayers are with you & your loved ones. I so enjoyed your Mother while attending CVCC. I had the pleasure of seeing her while on the trip to the West Coast and told her at that time that she was one of my favorite professors! May you find comfort in your faith, family and friends. Dear Doug, Donna, Ricky, and Joel,
I worked with your mother for 18 years at CCC.
The last time I saw her was in July 2009. She was on a bus trip from Seattle, WA to California. My husband Roy and I picked her up about 3:00 pm at her hotel in Portland. We then drove to Washington where we had an early dinner at Skamania Lodge which has beautiful views of the Columbia River. After dinner we drove along the old Columbia Highway in Oregon. We stopped several times to see the waterfalls along the way. We also stopped at Crown Point where we took beautiful pictures of the sunset.
We were both so very sad to hear the news about your mother.

Doug, Donna, Ricky and Joel,
I am so sorry to learn of your mother's death. I had just recently told my Dad ( George ) that we needed to go visit some of our oldest and dearest friends. Your Mom was first on the list. I am sorry we did not get to visit with her before this. We did not know of her illness. All the years we grew up together and all the times we went home with each other after church are special memories for me. Your family has a special place in my heart and I am full of the happiest memories of your Mom. She even helped me when I went to CVCC as she did so many others.
Please know the entire Evans family is keeping you in our prayers this holiday season. We hope to visit with you sometime before the new year.
For the record, if Debbie Callohan is planning to keep Donna straight, I think that is more like the blind leading the blind... It'll never happen.
God bless you all and know your Mom is enjoying Christmas where she should. She's with my Mom now and they can once again become fast friends.
Love to all of you,
Ann Muse Evans

I wish to let the family and friends of Katherine know what a dear and good person Katherine was to me. She was my first office mate at CVCC when I was first hired in 1977. She was always so kind and supportive to me despite my socially awkward ways. She taught me how to apply mathematical processes to psychological thweories in cognition which I taught.
Her kindness and goodness made my days and teaching comfortable and knowledgable. I offer her and her family my warmest blessing.
Sincerely yours,
Gerald Rubin

I worked under Mrs. Barringer in the early 90's as a work study student. It was one of the best things to ever happen to me. I was very fortunate to have known her. She was a wonderful lady and an inspiration to many. I have thought of her often over the years. I saw her and Anne Dejarnett about 6 months ago in Rustburg and was so glad that I was able to see them and talk with them again. I had no idea that it would be the last time I would talk with her. I wish that I had told her how much she really meant to me. She was truly a wonder. May God bless the Barringer family and her many friends during this time.

Eric, Joel, Jennifer and all the Barringer Family, please accept Leonard's and my heartfelt sympathies on the death of your dear mother and grandmother. I knew Katherine as an extremely caring and exceptionally talented person who understood instinctively how to successfully communicate with her students and who never gave up until they learned the skills she could impart. Thus, she is well loved and always remembered by them.
She was a good friend to me. We shared an office, we shared a room at a convention, and we shared years of long conversations and lunches. She was an inspiration and a great help. Irreplaceable, Katherine will live on in all our memories.

Joel -
I'm sorry to hear about your loss - it changes a man's life when his mother passes.
I never met her, but her reputation in the community, and the fact that I know she raised a strong, self-reliant family makes me wish I could have known her.
You're in our thoughts and prayers today.

We will miss Katherine deeply and so will all her children. I will do my best to help take care of Donna BUT that will be a challenge! What a great life Katherine had and what a great person she was.
Til we meet again.

Both my wife and I recall the passion and intensity that Ms. Barringer had as a teacher in the mid and late 70's. Neither of us excelled in Calculus, but she stands out as one of our few Instructors/Professors that took a genuine interest in helping her students understand the meaning behind the equations.
We had the pleasure of meeting her again, thirty years later. Still sharp as a tack soon after her "early" retirement. We were reintroduced by her daughter, Donna... who was teaching us to dance.
We'll join the public celebration of her life... but more importantly, we'll remember and appreciate the positive influence she had on her family and friends. Thoughtful and sincere regards.

My heart goes out to the family of Katherine Barringer. She was a strong and caring woman who never met a stranger. She could disagree with you and then go with you to lunch. Though I had not seen her in quite awhile, I will always remember her smile and pleasant personality. She will be missed by us all.

I am the one that had the pleasure of meeting Katherine when she offered to sell me, for my son, a bed that was in the basement of her home built by her son I believe. She was a great person to talk to and very interesting in so many ways. Wanda Tolley has kept me informed during all of the illness. May she rest in peace. Love to you all!

My sincere condolences to the Barringer family. Mrs. Barringer always went the extra mile to stay and meet with her Algebra/Calculus students to help them understand. Her office was opened to me many times outside of class hours for extra instruction. She was a great educator, sweet lady and she will be greatly missed by all.

I was a CVCC student during the seventies, and I have very vivid and fond memories of Mrs. Barringer. Her door was always open to students like me who struggled with math. She was invariably cheerful and encouraging, and was such a warm, open, loving person. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She had an enormous effect on many and will not be forgotten.

Dear Barringer Family, We have not met you and only knew Katherine a short time, but thought she was such a lovely and kind person. Our family was introduced to her by our dear friend Anne DeJarnette. Katherine came over and helped my daughter Ashleigh learn some Algebra and we shared a meal together. What an interesting person she was, we all enjoyed our time with her. She had a way about her of building confidence in even the meekest math student and helping them feel successful. We share in your loss with you and rejoice with Katherine as she enjoys basking in the presence of her Savior. God bless you all. Keith, Shirley and Ashleigh Cox

Doug,
I read the obituaries in the Lynchburg paper and I saw your name. I don't know if you remember me or not , but I was Ellen Goode(Hill). I am sorry to hear about your Mother. Take care and hope you have been doing well.

Dear Barringer Family--I am sorry to learn of your loss. Your mom was a huge help to me at CVCC because I had to pass algebra and my brain did not seem to speak that language. She could not have been more patient and kind. I know there are many more former students out there that she helped along. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Doug Harvey, Lynchburg

Although known for her dedication to teaching and love of math, these were not Kate's first priorities. Based on numerous conversations I had with her over the years at CVCC, it was evident she knew to Whom she belonged, and is now face-to-face with the One she followed in this life. A genuinely unique lady, she will be sorely missed.
