Susan and I had lost touch after freshman college year where she was the best roomie ever. Came to Smith Mountain Lake from Kentucky for a short vacation and was hopeful of reconnecting with Susan. So sad to find that she had passed a decade ago. Life gets so busy with kids and grand kids that we often loose touch with one another. Then when we are older and have more time sadly it is sometimes too late.

I want to express my sincere condolences to all of Susan's dear family members, many of whom are very special to me. We live in faith that the righteous will be rewarded. I wish I could have been there for the memorial event, though obligations kept me away. You were in my thoughts, as you remain still. My sincerest regards.

Just returned home from an extended holiday to learn of your Mom's passing.
She was a dear friend and we will always remember the many wonderful things that Susan did for her community, her friends, and her students. We are left without the real proper things to say and so because we cannot understand the taking of such an accomplished individual, Mary Louise and I pass our deepest condolences to the children and all members of the family who shared Susan's life. Every time we attend services at Covenant we shall say a special prayer for all the family and certainly to the one we loved most, Susan. Mary Louise and John Summers

Wally, Whitney and Hunter~I am sorry for your loss. I remember one of the times I was over at her house, out of nowhere, she taught me how to say 'Where is the bathroom?' in spanish. She always made me smile... as she did the world.

Wally, Whitney and Hunter,
Your mom was the Perfect Fan with video camera in hand, capturing every moment of every basketball and soccer game, while cheering for each of you and your teammates, no matter the outcome. She had a zest for life and always knew how to bring laughter and joy into our lives. Our movie times together, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, are memories that I will cherish. The backdooor of your home was like a revolving door, welcoming everyone because of her loving heart. And on Wally and Marley's wedding day, as she danced with her first born child, no song could have said it better....I will miss but will never forget "The Perfect Fan". My love and prayers to you all. May God comfort and bless your family.

We were so sadden by the news of Susan's death. What a beautiful obituary in the paper It was so indicative of who Your mother was. We are thinking of all of you and our times together in Roanoke, even though it was so long ago. I remember riding back from Williamsburg after a soccer tournament, laughing and carrying on. Please know that our thought and prayers are with you all. The Harrison Family

I (Paige) had the honor of teaching with Susan. She was such an amazing woman, teacher, mentor, and friend. She has been, and will continue to be an inspiration.
I am so very sorry for your loss.
God bless Susan, and all of you.
Perhaps they are not just the stars, but rather openings in Heaven,
where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know that they are happy.

Wally, Whitney, and Hunter,
So sorry to hear about your mother.
I (Anita) was privileged to have her twice as a room mother, during the years when Whitney and Hunter were in my kindergarten class. Her vivaciousness, enthusiasm, and willingness to help were greatly appreciated.
I (Larry) was privileged to have her as a team mother during the summer that I coached Whitney in basketball.
We both then enjoyed her continuing friendship through the years.
Best wishes to you now in this difficult time.
