Jack Rupert Obituary

Jack Burns Rupert, 79, of Moneta, was born on February 25, 1929, and reborn on April 7, 2008. His parents, now deceased, were Paul Raymond Rupert and Mildred Burns Rupert of Clarendon. He had one brother, the late Lt. Cdr. Paul Raymond Rupert II. Jack and his wife, Shirl, were long time residents of McLean, Va. and owners of Congressional Laurel Studio in Rockville, Md. His portraits are cherished by families throughout Northern Virginia. He and his wife of 56 years enjoyed their retirement years on Smith Mountain Lake. Celebrating Jack's life are four daughters, one son, and 13 grandchildren, Carola and John Enriquez, John Patrick and Lauren, of Bakersfield, Calif., Paula and Jim Petrey, Ryan, Justin, Elizabeth, and John, of Lynchburg, Andrea Ross, Jacob and Jacqueline, of Charlottesville, Jackie and Thom Ryder, Sam and Callan, of Roanoke, Adam and Pam Rupert, Paul, Philip and Peter, of Gautier, Miss. Jack was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and active with the Lake Writers. He was blessed with wonderful fellowship at Trinity Ecumenical Parish as well as scores of friends at the lake. Jack enjoyed a celebration of his life with over a hundred family, friends and caregivers at Springtree Health and Rehabilitation Center on March 30, 2008, just before he began his final journey with Good Shepard Hospice. He died at Springtree surrounded by loved ones after numerous complications from heart surgery. In lieu of flowers, donations to continue the ministry at Jack's church can be made to Trinity Ecumenical Parish, Smith Mountain Lake, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, Va. 24101, 540-721-4330. A service of remembrance will be held at Trinity Ecumenical Parish at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2008, with Pastor Philip Bouknight officiating. Condolences may be sent to www.tharpfuneralhome.com. I very much enjoyed meeting Jack and Sheryl when Karen and I and our three younguns flew out to visit family many years ago. He was very accomplished and creative, with a good dose of humor thrown in - a good and loved man.
