Carolyn Larson Obituary
ROCKWELL - Carolyn "Jean" Larson, 67, of Rockwell, passed away July 2, 2009, surrounded by family and friends at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury after a long illness.
Jean was born Oct. 9, 1942, in Stanton, Iowa. She is survived by two daughters, Leda Larson of Salisbury and Sara Larson of Rockwell; her mother, Lorraine Larson of Stanton, Iowa; brothers John and Norman of Iowa; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews of Iowa, Oregon and Nebraska; along with numerous cousins and extended family in North Carolina.
Jean was educated in Iowa and Nebraska school systems and received a degree in elementary education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
She was the first female to work as a patrol officer and first female patrol sergeant in the Charlotte Police Dept. She retired after 25 years of service.
Jean worked in the Salisbury school system for many years and was a longtime member of Christiana Lutheran Church. She resided in the Charlotte area before moving to Rockwell.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and extended family, as well as her police family.
Ms. Larson will be cremated and her ashes are to be taken home to Iowa. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials: Her family has asked in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Christiana Lutheran Church, 6190 U.S. 52, Salisbury, NC 28146.
Evergreen Cremation Services is assisting the Larson family.

Jean, it has been just over a month, and I still miss my friend so much, It has been hard cleaning your home and getting everything ready for it to be sold it was so awfully hard to do, also I was hard for us to feel your family's pain, to see the pain in their eyes, and to meet your brother John under such sad times. Bill & I tried to help the best we could. You are so missed. Your girls miss you too, thay have been doing alot of soul searching and growing up. Hope they make you proud. Mona & Bill

Mama Jean,
you were such a good hearted person and I am going to miss you. The time I spent with you and your daughters was so much fun and I always felt loved. You made my stay in the US so special and you did the best to show me as much of your country as possible.

She was like an Aunt to me and I knew her since I was about 8 years old. She was an inspiration to me and someone I looked up to and admired for her courage. She was a great friend to my family and always gave good advice. She was one of those rare people that helped nurture those around her and she helped instill hope in people. I appreciate all her advice and the fun times. She was truly a good human being and I will miss her.

hi mama it's katya i want you to know i really miss you and i think about you every minute.i would do anything just to feel your touch or see you. i'm sorry for all the bad things i have done in the past 2 years i hope you can forgive me. i promise to straighten up just to make you proud. i promise i will get in the military by your next birthday like i told you i would. i will get my education like i know you want me too.mommy life is so hard without you. i wasn't ready for you to leave and i'm so home sick i just want to go home and sit with you and watch the golden girls. i miss our laughs. you were the best and the strongest person i knew. i hope to be like you. i know you will watch over me and leda like you promised you would. i have so much growing up to do please never leave my side as i grow these next few years. thank you for adopting me and for being the best mom in the world. i love you so much and i will never stop loving you. this is not a goodbye i will be seeing you soon.

Mama Jean! I will always cherish our memories and I will forever hold you in my heart. You made me a better person, mother and woman. Thanks you for all the joy you brought in my life. Mama Jean, you will be missed. Like all the other female officers who came after you, I benefited from your willingness to be the first and to do it right! And like everyone else who worked for you, I was often amazed with how strong you were when needed and how often the victim's really touched your heart - especially if children were involved.
You touched the lives of so many people and we are all better for having known you. My prayers and thoughts are with you family and friends.

Momma Jean was my first police supervisor. She was an "Old School Woman" who demanded the most from her personnel and also took care of all of them. There were many comical things she said but the one I remember the most was, "Lil Joe, your Field Training Officer maybe your daddy but Momma Jean is your Momma". That was 17 years ago. She will be missed and she was a "True Hero". She broke the mold and blazed the path for others to follow. My sincere condolences to the family.

I was a rookie at the Charlotte Police Dept in 1977 when Jean was promoted to Sgt. I joined the CPD because the gender barrier had been broken with 5 women out of over 500 officers. Jean was the first woman to be in uniform on patrol and the first woman sergeant. She broke through some difficult barriers and paved the way for the rest of us. Thank you Jean for your courage and determination. My sincere condolences to the family.

Ms. Larson was a substitute of mine all through elementary and middle school. She was a very sweet and caring person who made a great impact on my life. She will be dearly missed and I extend my condolences to the family.

We were sad to hear of Jean's passing. Just 1 week away we were sitting in the kitchen talking with Jean. She was like part of the family and we will miss her being with us. We are thankful that she had your love and support through her illness. God be with you.

I will miss our layed back times on the back deck listen to the music, you tapping our foot, your smile, joking around, and your dancing to the oldies.
