Lawrence Sund Obituary

Lawrence Harold SUND Age 63, passed away Jan. 8, 2009. Larry was born on May 25, 1945 in Shelton, Washington but has lived in the greater Seattle area for over 35 years. One of 5 children, Larry grew up on the Sund family homestead property on Hood Canal, just north of Hoodsport, WA. Larry's father was an outdoorsman and Larry inherited this love of all things outdoor. After graduating from Shelton High School in 1963, Larry studied geography at Western Washington University and graduated in 1967. After 2 years in the Navy where he was stationed in Honolulu, Larry moved back to the greater Seattle area in 1970 and was never to leave. He worked for Patterson Dental for 38 years, forging great relationships with the dentists and dental offices he served. He was hard working, loyal, and extremely funny. To have met Larry was to have been blessed by a great man. Larry met his wife Cheryl Hungate at a dental convention in 1980 and they have been together ever since. Cheryl and Larry have spent the last 3 decades skiing and diving together, travelling the globe, sailing in their sailboat, and sharing the journey of life together. They were best friends and Larry loved nothing more than seeing the world with her. Larry was also a passionate hunter and fisherman, and each year was marked with annual steelhead trips to Forks, Elk hunts to Idaho, deer hunts near Twisp, WA and numerous other adventures into nature. Larry is survived by his wife of 28 years Cheryl Hungate Sund, his mother Mary Jane Sund of Hoodsport, WA, his sister Sharon Sund of Hoodsport, WA; brother David Sund of Hoodsport, WA; sister Sylvia Wilson of Merchantville, NJ; and sister Sheryl Endicott of Hoodsport, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, 13632 NE 177th Place, Woodinville, WA on Sunday January 11, 2:00 pm. Memorial donations can be sent to the Dr. Pommier Carcinoid Cancer Research, OHSU Foundation Acct #2380, 3181 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd, Portland, OR 97239.

Cheryl;

Sandie and I just found out today about Larry's passing. It was a true shock. I am sorry I did not know earlier as I would have flown back for the service. Larry, Dave and myself were very close going through college and after. He was truly an outstanding individual and a close friend. In fact, he got Sandie and myself into skiing at Mt. Bachelor when we lived in Federal Way.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. He wll be missed.

Cheryl,
Scott and I just heard. Our hearts go out to you. Larry was such a neat man we wish we could have had more time to grow our freindship over in Twisp. Let us know if you need anything We are just a call away.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. I am a friend of Sylvia Wilson, Larry's sister, but never was fortunate enough to meet Larry. He sounds like a truly wonderful man. Best to you and your family.

I will remember Larry's ability to cause us to laugh, his ability to ask great questions, and his intense positive attitude, which never waivered, even in spite of the most adverse of conditions will remain with us always.

One of the things I will remember forever is when Larry was trying out his new camcorder. He was interviewing different family members; he asked Dad Hungate a question one Christmas Eve, "Hey, Bob, tell a Christmas story we have haven't heard before", and without Larry's interview, our family heard THE best Christmas story, never heard before, and one that we all will always remember. Without Larry's interview, we would have missed out on the story from long ago.

I know Larry is in Heaven with Jesus (we talked about it) and I thank the Lord for being truly Blessed to know and love Larry and be his friend and brother-in-law.

My very sincere sympathy, sorrow and love goes out to Cheryl, Larry's Mom, to Sharon, David, Sylvia, Sheryl and all of Larry's entire Family and friends.

I hadn't seen much of Larry since graduation in 1963 but have been praying for him since I first heard of his illness. Even though God does not always answer our prayers the way we would like, we find can find comfort in knowing that Larry is now free from pain and is with our Lord Jesus Christ.

My thoughts and prayers are with Cheryl and the extended Sund family.

Larry and I were friends during high school. Our names both started with S, Stuck & Sund so we were together in most high school pictures. He is one of my best school memories, I felt we were good friends. Even though we haven't seen each other since, I will miss knowing that he isn't here anymore. My Prayers go to all his family, there is no replacing a loved one.
