Hester Abrams Obituary

Celebrating the Life of Hester Holbrook Abrams "She's out and about or inundated...please leave a message to be related" Hester Holbrook Abrams, born June 19, 1942, in Milwaukee, WI, passed away October 20, 2008, in Austin, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Katharine Brumder Holbrook and Matson Holbrook of Milwaukee, WI. Hester will be sadly missed by her two brothers Matson (Deborah) and William (Rana) Holbrook; the Brumder family of Milwaukee, WI; her niece, Sarah (Will) Slaughter; and nephews, Matson Jr. (Sarah), McLean (Mranda) and Andrews Holbrook, and her three children; Amy of Venice, CA, Scott of Peterborough, NH and Timothy Abrams of Boulder, CO. Hester was predeceased by her long time companion John (Jack) Hogan of Westchester County, NY. Hester attended Milwaukee Downer Seminary (University School of Milwaukee), and was a graduate of Colorado Rocky Mountain School (CRMS) of Carbondale, CO, and Garland Jr. College of Boston, MA. Hester was an accomplished artist who mastered everything she put her hand to - from water color painting and photography to bronzing and sculpting, and finally the intricacies of beadwork jewelry design to which she devoted her last years. Hester embraced life and she is remembered for her infinite capacity to LOVE, to SHARE, to be CREATIVE, to SUPPORT and to show unlimited ACCEPTANCE & COMPASSION. She was the ultimate champion to her children and she positively affected everyone who was fortunate to know her. In addition to all these qualities, she took pride in coaching Little League Baseball for the Lewisboro Tigers & the Cosmos Soccer team in South Salem, NY, in the 1970's. Hester was a natural, graceful athlete with a passion for fly fishing, scuba diving, paddle tennis, tennis, and golf. She was a self taught guitar player, and the harmony when she sang was pure beauty. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice. P.S. She would appreciate it if you would vote for Obama.

I close my eyes and she is there in the bow of the Old Town, fly rod in hand, joy in her soul, she is casting for brown trout at twilight. We are on the river, an owl calls, something hits her Hank's Creation, Hester hoots in delight.
It is a good night to be on the river. Thank you for such sweet times and such good memories.

My deepest sympathies to Hester's family. It has been decades since I last saw her, but I will always remember her warmth and sparkle. I was just a kid at the time, but Hester was one of my most dazzling and impressive cousins. And yes, we all voted for Obama - with great delight!!

What sadness to know that our Uncommon Chiseler friend Hester has gone. We had a lot of laughs and friendship in our sculpture group in Greenwich, CT, and remember Hester as a true artist and fine friend. Wishing you all peace in your hearts. She will be missed. Sharon Collinson

My sympathies to the family of Hester. I knew her since she was two. She and her brother Matson and the rest of the family were our next door neighbors. They were "family" to us. Hester will always have a special place on my heart, and i'm sure, everyone she touched. This world lost a cherished soul, but her future is bright. She will be missed. She left a living legacy of goodness for others to imitate.

I did not know Hester. She sounds like a wonderful soul. My deepest sympathies are with the family. One of her last wishes will certainly be carried out by myself and many others. The joy and energy of her life will be carried through the nation by the inauguration of Barrack Obama. Thank you for your time and goodness while on this Earth Hester

I did not know Hester, but I am touched that she would have the fore-sight and concern to encourage a well-thought vote as one of her final wishes. She must have be something special.
