Barbara Walker Obituary

Barbara (Martel) Walker passed away on March 29th, after a courageous struggle with cancer.

Present at the time of her passing were her husband of 39 years, Rick Walker of Auburn; her daughter, Kerry Walker of Auburn; her son, Michael Walker of Glastonbury, CT; his girlfriend, Shannon Bacchiochi of Glastonbury, CT, and close family friends, Gail Howe-Trenholm of Ontario, Canada and Elise and Karl Barry of Paxton.

Barbara graduated from Burncoat High School and Framingham State College. She was employed as a biotech research technician at the Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology and later at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, where her work contributed to numerous patents and more than fifteen published papers. Barbara loved to travel, but her favorite wild places were at home. She was a long time volunteer and a member of the advisory committe at Broad Meaadow Brook Audubon Sanctuary in Worcester. She was also an officer of Forbush Bird Club and the Massachusetts Chapter of the North American Butterfly Assn., and a member of the Athol Bird and Nature Club.

Barbara believed that every trail was a loop trail. There's no point in seeing what you've already seen, and if you walked far enough, you'd end up back where you started.

Calling hours will be from 6-8 Wednesday, April 2 & Thursday, April 3 in CASWELL-KING FUNERAL HOME, 474 Grove St., Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Broad Meadow Brook Audubon Sanctuary, 414 Massasoit Rd., Worcester 01604 or Susan Koman For The Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.

I met Barbara through bird watching and was fortunate enough to spend a week birding with her out west. She loved nature and learning.
She was a true friend and wonderful person. May God take good care of you until she sees you again.

I had the pleasure to work with Barbara at UMass Medical School. On gloomy days, she would stop by my office and light up the room with her pearly whites, and her wide smile. My thoughts and prayers are with the Walker family. I will miss you Barbara, May you Rest in Peace.
