To Ms. Ogrady's family
Ms Ogrady will always be remembered for her enthusiasm and vivacious personality. I studied German with Ms. OGrady for 3 years at Girls' Latin School. Whatever she taught...be it history or math I would have done well. In this case it was German and I went on to get a degree in German Language and Literature at Emmanuel College in Boston. I am sad to hear of her death but feel so privileged to have had her in my life during my years at Girls' Latin School.

I studied German with Miss O'Grady for 4 years at Girls Latin (class of '69). An excellent instructor, she was also a favorite of me and my classmates--I have vivid memories of our inattention in class in October 1967 as the Red Sox battled in the World Series, about which she was very understanding! What a struggle it was to teach German to native Bostonians, who never use an "r' if we can help it.

Rose, O reine Widerspruch,
Lust,
niemandes Schlaf zu sein
Unter soviel' Lidern. -- Rilke's self-composed epitaph.
Rose, oh pure contradition,
Desire, to be
No one's sleep,
among so many eyelids.
(Note: Lider and Lieder, lids and songs, poems.)
Liebe Fraulein O'Grady,
Herzlichen Dank fur die Liebe der deutschen Sprache, fur Rilke und andere Dichter, fur das Musik und die ganze Kultur von Deutschlands. Forgive my German errors, but I just wanted to say thank you, for teaching me to love German. It was important and somehow comforting to me to learn that our lives, though on different paths, have been concurrent for so long. Because of Miss O'Grady, I went on to Boston College and majored in German Language and Literature. I graduated from GLS in 1970, after taking German with Miss O'Grady for 4 years. As my German teacher, she enriched my life immeasurably. What a true gift! You will be missed. Ruhe in Frieden.
Sincerely,
Nancy Browne

The three years I spent in Miss O'Grady's German class from 1964-67 were the most enjoyable days at GLS! I cherish the wonderful wit and stories she shared with her students. She was by far my best teacher!

I am also from the class of 1967 at Girls' Latin School. I have very fond memories of Miss O'Grady, my German teacher. Her classes (vs. Latin) were the easiest and most enjoyable.
With sympathy to the families,

Winnie,
Your many friends at Acme Bookbinding will always remember your energy, enthusiasm, and love of life. You are a role model for all of us to emulate. Fond memories of stories you told of your trips abroad and to NY shows seem like yesterday. Your 30 years of service to our library customers, after you retired from a career as a school teacher, is a record of great accomplishment. Your beautiful laugh and endless curiosity are among your many wonderful qualities that we will always cherish.
Winnie, we will miss you but never forget you.

Hi James,
I am writing to offer you my condolences. I hope this finds you being comforted. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for allowing me to be with Winifred. She was a blessing to me, even in those last days of her life at the Winchester N.H.
Peace to you,

I am from the GLS graduating class of 1967. Miss O'Grady and I kept a correspondence for many years. I was fortunate enough to visit her in 2000. We had a great visit which I shall never forget. She was such an incredible teacher and human being.
