WILLIAM ROBERT QUINLAN
ITHACA - William "Bill" Robert Quinlan, 85, died peacefully at Hospicare, October 30, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He will always be remembered for his warmth and kindness, sense of humor and quick wit, and the love he showered on his family.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 24, 1923, a son of the late Elizabeth (Swabrick) and John Quinlan, Bill graduated from Weymouth High School, then Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1944. He was commissioned by the United States Navy as an Ensign and served in the Pacific during WWII aboard the USS Alnitah as a Lieutenant J.G.
After the war, Bill graduated from Boston University, where he was president of his class for four years, with a BS degree in Education. He began his business career with Boston Gear Works in Quincy, Massachusetts. Following locations in Quincy; Toronto, Canada; and Wyckoff, New Jersey, Bill continued his career in international sales and marketing with Morse-Borg Warner in Ithaca, New York, where he worked from 1965-1987. After he retired, Bill consulted for Borg Warner, and later for Cloyes Manufacturing in Ohio.
Bill served as Commodore of the Ithaca Yacht Club, and was a member of the Country Club of Ithaca, and was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lorraine Casciani Quinlan; his daughter, Darby (Bill) Boggess of East Orleans, Massachusetts, and their children, Elizabeth McFarland and Ann Bridgman; his daughter, Pam (Alan Cohen) Quinlan of Ithaca, New York; his beloved grandchildren, William and Michael Quinlan-Cohen, who brought such joy to his life; brother, John Quinlan of Weymouth, Massachusetts; and sister-in-law, Helen Casciani of Manhattan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Those wishing to remember Bill are asked to consider a memorial to Hospicare, 172 E. King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850. Arrangements are by the Bangs Funeral Home.
