BARTOW - Thomas K. Chancey, Jr, 67, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center of respiratory failure.
Born January 15, 1942 in Estill, SC, Mr. Chancey has been a resident of Bartow 25 years, moving from Lakeland. He was a damage assessor & founding member of the Department of Homeland Security. He was formerly a permit engineer with the Department of Transportation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Highland City. He enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife: Linda N. Chancey, Bartow; 2 sons: Mike Chancey (Lori) & Rob Chancey (Laura) both of Lakeland; 4 daughters: Cheri Grant of Bartow, Alison Keenan (Brett) & Tara Yancey (Will) all of Lakeland, Amber Church (Doss) of Ashville, NC; mother: Ola Moye Chancey of Eastman, GA; brother: Doug Chancey (Connie) of Lutz; 17 grandchildren: Morgan, Katie, Zachary, Jacob, Jordan, Adam, Emily, Madison, Simon, Julia, Sadie, Jackson, Henry, Kayton, Josie, Luke & Ansley.
Family will receive friends Thursday, April 16, 6-8 pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, Bartow. Funeral services will be held Friday 11 am at First Baptist Church of Highland City, 5410 Yarborough Lane. Memorials may be made to: Palliative Care Unit, P.O. Tom loved to fish.
I sold him my Aqua Sport Center Console boat.
Tom always had a huge smile on his face.
My family still remembers Tom with fond memories.
I worked with Tom for many years.
I still miss him.

My deepest sympathies to Tommy's family.
Mine is a voice from Tommy's past. I went
to elementary school with Tommy in Fort Meade back in the last 40's and early 50's and regret to say that I had not seen him since about 1952. God's peace will come to the family in their many

We founded a Gospel Quartet
and sang all around the area.
