I remember Coach Staley as being a very fiery coach. He was my favorite coach... At any level. But he was even more a developer of people. When you have something special, sometimes you don't realize it, until you can no longer touch it. I am so thankful to not only have had the opportunity to play and know Coach Staley, but to also recently tell him how special he was to me, and countless others.

He was the best. My sincerest condolences to Carol and family.

My sister-in-law called me to let me know that Mr. Staley had passed. She wanted me to know cause she remembered me telling her once that he was my favorite teacher!

Mr. Staley was my 6th grade teacher at Dover Avenue Elementary(1976/1977)and he was, by far, my favorite teacher. He would have classroom contests and games which made learning the material fun. I recall fainting in class while giving a presentation on The Netherlands and I remember doing an awesome Science Project on fossils with Julie Smith. Mr. Staley was also a track coach during my days running track (not sure I was as fond of him then...making us run and run and run---ha ha). He was a great teacher and I will always, always remember him and things learned so very long ago!
Blessings to his family.

I have many fond memories of "Mr. Staley".
I remember talking to him as a young elementary student when walking home from Dover Avenue, of course that is back when he lived in the hood on Chestnut St. I remember him as one of Dover's football coaches when I played football. I remember him as the girls track coach when I ran for the boys team and then as the track coach when I worked at those Tornado Relays. Most of all I remember his smile & laugh when he was telling me one of his tales. My condolences to his family and all the others that he made a lastly impression on.

Rick was my 6th grade teacher and 8th grade basketball coach and was a great role model for me. I realize now he is one of the reasons I became a teacher 23 years ago. He created a great legacy and will be sadly missed by those kids that he touched so deeply, like me.

We are losing a wonderful coach, and a dear friend. I have wonderful memories of my early days as a "football wife" and Rick is in many of them. Thank you Rick for being a good friend to Phil and me and even more so, to Jason down on the sidelines.

hi i don't know Rick but one of the kids in my lab is on the track team. you may know him. his name is Sean Wilson. Sean came into our lab today at Buckeye and told us his Track Coach died. Sean does that a lot so we had to look up on the internet to make sure it was true. and it was. i am so very sorry for your guys' lost but i think Sean is more sorry. Sean always talked about how much he loved his Track Coach and everything. When we saw him come into lab this morning all sad, we knew something was wrong. well thanks for reading this and make sure Sean can write something about him too.

Mr Staley was one of my football coaches. When it was raining during practice, he would always wear a bright yellow rain suit from head to toe. We called him big bird. :)

I remember Mr. Staley during my time at Dover Avenue School. He was the "cool" teacher in the bunch. He would stand out in the hall and exchange ribbings with all the kids. I was so sad to hear about his passing. I will always have fond memories of him. My condolences to all of you.
