William Sherwood Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

SHERWOOD, William WILLIAM M. "BILL" SHERWOOD Bill Sherwood, of Duluth, passed away Saturday, March 7 at his home. In addition to his parents and sister, Marian, he was preceded in death 6 months and 1 week by his wife of 61 years, Jo. He is survived by sisters Jeannie (Bill) of Tega Cay, South Carolina; Jackie (Bud-de ceased) of Doraville; children Ray (Jan) Sherwood of Snellville, Fred Sherwood of Danville, California and Susan Thayer (Jeff) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren Michael (Jennifer), Melissa, Tim, Lindsay, and great-grandchildren Katherine and Sarah. Bill was a proud veteran of World War II serving with the United States Navy. He made the Okinawa invasion as a medic assigned to the First Marine Fleet. Having moved to Atlanta in 1951 to work with his father at Sherwood Cut Stone Company, he made his living in the limestone industry and enjoyed that his work could be seen at the National Cathedral in Washington, D. C. and at many churches, buildings and private residences throughout the Atlanta area. Bill and Jo were members of the Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth for over 30 years where he spent many hours with his buddies on the golf course. The family would like to thank the support of so many wonderful friends and neighbors who helped Dad manage life without Mom. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. at Patterson's Oglethorpe Hill on Friday, March 13th with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14th with interment at Arlington Cemetery. Donations can be made to your favorite charity or the St. Vincent de Paul Society. H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill, 4550 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30319.

My heart felt sympathy on the loss of your dear father, brother and grand father. Please trust that Jo and Bill are together and watching over their loving family. I will always miss seeing Jo and how her eyes would twinkle as she volunteered at the hospital and Bill's sweet smile as he looked at his Jo.
