Arthur Eisenhower Obituary

Dr. Arthur John Eisenhower

Scottsdale - Dr. Arthur John Eisenhower, DVM, resident of Scottsdale, Arizona, died at age 95 on February 3, 2021, from complications of Covid 19. Born in Schell City, Missouri, on August 17, 1925, he spent most of his youth in West Hollywood and Van Nuys, California, before joining the Navy. After his military service, he married Lila Petersen Eisenhower with whom he'd enjoy 72 years of marriage. They began a family while he finished veterinary school at UC Davis, then moved to Merced, California, where he began his career and added three more children to the family. In 1960, the family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he'd open a small animal hospital, then a larger one where he practiced medicine and managed a three-doctor hospital for many years. From 1973-76, Arthur and Lila volunteered with the Peace Corps in Afghanistan and El Salvador. Afterward, Arthur returned to his hospital, and also taught at ASU and served as Arizona State Veterinary Inspector. Art and Lila traveled extensively to over 40 countries. Art's hobbies included landscaping beautiful gardens around the family home, and camping and adventuring with his children on summer vacations, taking the family to beautiful locations three times a year around the American West and into Mexico. Art was preceded in death by his wife Lila Petersen Eisenhower two years earlier. He is survived by four children, Jean Ann Eisenhower, John Arthur Eisenhower, Laurie Nell Eisenhower, and Susan Jo Eisenhower; by twelve grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

What a blessing it has been for our mom, Louise L. Ong, and for her children to have befriended both Art and Lila Eisenhower. In the last couple years, it has been such a pleasure for us to have Art join with all of us on many special family occasions. While we will miss him greatly, we have the great hope that we will meet him and Lila again when we return to our eternal home in heaven. May the peace from our Lord bring each member of the Eisenhower family comfort during this difficult time.
