Clair Lane Obituary

Clair William Lane

Tempe - Clair William Lane, of Tempe, Arizona decided to move on to the afterlife at age 75 on June 16, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with an aggressive Leukemia. He will join his son Micah, daughter Amy, brother John, and best friends Gary and Phil. He would like to mention the timing has absolutely nothing to do with ASU Football's pending investigation. However, he does look forward to the investigation of the murder that took place in Arizona Stadium in November 2020 resulting in a 70-7 victory for the Sun Devils. Born on April 3, 1946, in the Imperial Valley, California, Clair became a permanent Arizona resident putting down his roots in Tempe in the mid-50s. After graduating from Central High School in 1964 and Arizona State University in 1968, he then earned his Juris Doctorate from the Sandra Day O'Connor School of Law in 1971. Clair was a successful lawyer, land developer, past President of the Tempe Diablos and Tempe Touchdown Club, devoted father, and proud grandfather. He was the one person you'd call if you ever found yourself in a jam with the law—guilty or innocent. He also loved golfing, crossword puzzles, drawing maps instead of writing addresses, cheeseburgers made with onions and celery, Munds Park, Camp T, telling (or most often retelling) his best new bad joke, and being with family. He is survived by his loving wife Debi, children Scott, Cassandra, and Mikail, and granddaughters Erica, Aubrey, Lucah, Paytlen, Hayslie, Wilder, and his 8-week old grandson Cameron William, who will grow to avenge his grandfather's untimely death. Funeral services will be held at Green Acres Mortuary in Scottsdale, Arizona on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 2:00 pm.

I still miss you terribly. It´s been nearly 2 years and I still wake up wondering where you are, only for a millisecond but still ....,
We shared the highest highs and lowest lows, which I guess is the essence of being alive.
I love you forever

Clair and I went to Central High together. We served on a few reunion committees together. Clair was intelligent, funny and the life of the party. He will be missed at our 60th Reunion in a few years and beyond. I have donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in his honor.

So sorry to see you go old friend. One of the last of the old guard Diablos and one of the greatest as well. You always had a way to make us laugh. A true Sun Devil to the end. You will be missed.

I met Clair when he was a new (really new) graduate of ASU's law school. As a favor, I filled in as a quick/emergency (not a legal) secretary at the law firm that had just employed Clair. The firm's lead attorney (a friend) was rarely around to help us. We were the blind leading the blind. What a cute, smart and funny youngster! My then husband and I were active in Tempe and I ran into Clair for the next decades. He was just was someone you can't forget. And then, like so many Tempe coincidences, one of my sons grew up to love and play golf; he and Clair continued the "Rote" friendship. This obituary is "perfect Clair." Such a loss. I'm so sad for his family and friends.

Clair really enjoyed helping attorneys start solo law practices and I am grateful to him for providing me with the opportunity. I subleased an office within his space for five years and then leased a larger office in his business complex for another 25 years ! He was experienced, fearless, creative, and always available to discuss cases. He was fun and always had a new best joke to tell! I last saw him at the state bar convention in 2019 and joined his table for breakfast where he entertained the crowd with his humor and stories. Thanks for the memories Clair.

I got to know Clair through Jeff Orgill in the early 60's. Clair and his brother went on some scout hikes and other youth activities at the LDS Fifth Ward. We also attended Central High and I graduated in 1963. Clairhas a happy disposition and lived life to the fullest. God bless him and his family. Dan Boyle

I am an attorney in town, and knew Clair for many, many years. He was truly a consummate professional, and one of a kind. We worked against each other several times, and it was always fun, challenging, and the way adversarial matters should be resolved. I will miss him and his unique insight, wisdom and sense of humor.
