GUADALUPE MORALES LEAL
October 18, 1951 November 6, 2022
Guadalupe Morales Leal, also known as Lupe, Lupita, La Loba, Mama, Viejita, passed away on November 6, 2022 in Bakersfield, California. She was 71 years old. Born on October 18, 1951 in Huentitán, Guadalajara, Jalisco to Guadalupe and Petra Morales, she lived in Huentitán the majority of her young life and moved to Wasco, CA in the late 60's. She settled in McFarland, CA where she met and married her husband Alfonso Leal, Jr.
Guadalupe had a tremendously strong work ethic. Even though she was retired, she continued to style hair, especially for family. She worked a wide range of jobs throughout her life. After many years working as a farm laborer, mostly picking grapes throughout Kern County, she enrolled in Federico Beauty College in Bakersfield. While raising a young family and with limited English language proficiency, she completed the Cosmetology Program and passed the California State License Exam. She worked mostly at Genaro's Hair & Nail Design in Delano, CA for over 28 years.
Guadalupe loved flowers, plants, and trees. She was often in awe of nature's beauty, and the magnificent world that God created. She was amazed by the interconnectedness of the tiniest insect and the majestic mountains. She loved listening to the birds singing in her backyard. She loved reading The Bible, and always found great comfort learning about and sharing the Word of God.
Every year, she made the best tamales- de carne, queso, dulces, ensuring that everyone would be able to eat their favorite ones. She enjoyed preparing food for her family. Sopita for her grandchildren, mole for her daughters, was always open to special requests; and, although often with some last minute planning, happy to serve her loved ones. Un pan y cafecito in the morning was a go-to favorite.
Guadalupe was very social and enjoyed gathering. She enjoyed spending time with her family, visiting siblings and friends, learning about others, and sharing a conversation with the person sitting next to her. She was kind and thoughtful, and always had a positive attitude.
Guadalupe is survived by her children Lorraine, Laura, Yvonne, and Josue, several grandchildren, a great-grandchild, siblings Javier, Basilia, Maria, Jesse, Leticia, and their extended families.
Services will be held at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, 900 H Street in Bakersfield on Friday, November 25. Rosary at 10:30am, Memorial Mass at 11:00am, followed by graveside service at Greenlawn Mortuary Southwest, 2739 Panama Lane.
