PETER JOHN CATTANI
December 25, 1933 - October 2, 2017
Son of James R. and Gladys (Francis) Cattani

Born in Bakersfield, Peter grew up on the family dairy and farm in the Weedpatch- Vineland area. He attended Vineland-Sunset schools and graduated from Arvin High, then went on to Bakersfield Jr. College. After this he worked on the family farm with his father and for his uncles Bill and Arnold Cattani. They kept him very busy. Later Peter leased land and farmed. He and Judy Mitchell married and had a daughter, Michelle.

As time passed he gave up farming for the love of the sport of competitive shooting and worked as a bartender. He met his second wife Trish and fell in love and had a son, Jim. Pete went to work for Valley Gun and later the Ammo Dump which he purchased.

At this time he was still active and hunting and shooting competitions with his son Jim. They met Karen at a shooting event in Kingsburg and Pete fell in love again. That was 28 years ago.

Pete's family wishes to thank his customers and friends for their kindness and support. Pete was, and his family is so grateful to have Franky Buoni, Natalie Pritchett to make time for doctor's appointments and care.

He is survived by his wife Karen, step daughters Stacey Beall, Nichole Hyde, and Andrea VanAntwerp. His daughter, Michele Cattani, son, James, grandson Colton. Sister Corrinne Lambert and Uncle Leonard Francis.

Pallbearers will be Frank Buoni, Dominic Buoni, Denny Carver, Greg Lopez, Vincent Lopez and Glen Parker.

Visitation is scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 12 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, followed by interment at Greenlawn Cemetery, Northeast.

I met Pete a few years ago when I started frequenting his shop; he was an awesome salesman and always open to a conversation. The world needs more people like Pete, I will miss visiting him. RIP Pete

I first met Pete when he was at Valley Gun on S. Chester in the early 70's and continued to stop in and say Hi and buy from him. He was always friendly and willing to go the extra mile. I will truly miss Pete.

My deepest condolences. Pete was a customer of mine for 15 years and that grew into a great friendship. I always made the Ammo Dump my last stop of the day because I knew there was a cold beer waiting for me and it would end up being a late night with Ol' Pete. I am really going to miss you Pete and thank you for all the crazy times we had together. You will be greatly missed buddy!!! Rest well my friend

Pete was always open to me and my sons willing to talk firearms or anything else that came up.
I will always remember when we walked into the shop he would say "What's going on".
He will be missed by some many people.
