Waterman, IL - Ruth Edna Underwood, age 89, of Waterman, IL formerly of Big Rock, IL and Mountain Home, AR passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Edwards Hospital in Naperville, IL. She was born on February 11, 1932 in Chicago, IL the daughter of George Charles and Anna (Bubenik) Funk.

Ruth was united in marriage on October 13, 1956 in Berwyn, IL to Mr. Richard G. Underwood and spent the next 58 years happily together until his passing on August 29, 2015. Ruth's church families were very important to her and she was very active at Plano Bible Church, Plano, Illinois, and Bethel Baptist Church, Lake View, Arkansas. She attended and was loved by Waterman Bible Church, Waterman, Illinois. She and her husband spent 10 years traveling the United States doing missionary support work. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, bowled often with her Arkansas friends, and enjoyed watching the birds that she fed in her yard at her home in Waterman. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

Ruth is survived by her children, Ann (Gary) Hoskins of Newark, IL, Linda (Phillip) White of Phoenix, AZ, Janet (Craig) Miller of Waterman, IL, Glenn (Mishal) Underwood of Ionia, MI, Steve (Andrea) Underwood of Livonia, MI, and Gail (Timothy) VanRavenswaay of Rockton, IL; her 17 grandchildren; her 7 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her grandson, Elijah; her brother, George Funk; her sister, Dolores Brejla.

A Funeral Service for family and friends will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 6, 2021 with Pastor Craig Miller, officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Rock Welsh Cemetery in Big Rock, IL.

Family and friends may also visit from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1001 East Garfield Street, Waterman, IL.
