Ruby Bardsley Obituary

1924-2014 A beautiful new light is now shining in Heaven. Ruby Y. Bardsley peacefully departed this Earth on August 2, 2014. Known to many simply as Miss Ruby she was a genuine example of a graceful life well-lived. Ruby was born the middle child of five siblings on March 6, 1924 to Curtis and Willie May Younts in Corpus Christi, Texas. She started working in a department store at the tender age of 16, and her formidable talent was soon recognized. With her beautiful smile, sparkling blue eyes, pleasant demeanor and true wit, Ruby was a natural sales person. She truly enjoyed helping people. Ruby married Blythe Owen Bardsley on December 29, 1956 and their unique journey began. They moved to Beaumont in 1966 with their two children to begin the first Whataburger franchise of Southeast Texas. They were both very involved with the Texas Restaurant Association, and made many good friends through that organization. Ruby and Blythe traveled extensively throughout the world, and enjoyed these trips immensely. They loved to entertain, and Ruby was an excellent hostess and cook. They were also very active in several civic and charitable organizations as well as being long-time members of First United Methodist Church in Beaumont. Ruby was also a devoted friend. She had the rare quality of actually being able to listen to her friends without giving advice. She acted as a sounding board to many, and was deeply loved and respected. Ruby's greatest joy, however, was her family. She was the epitome of a devoted daughter, wife, mother and daughter in-law. She selflessly put her family first, and was happiest when she was with them. She loved them unconditionally, and gave them gentle strength and support every day of her life. Ruby returned to her retail roots in the 1980's, working at many retail establishments, selling custom clothing independently, and eventually ending her career at Gus Mayer. Ruby loved beautiful things, plants, flowers and people, and she was a true beauty in every way. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings. She is survived by her son Leonard Bardsley and wife Jody, her daughter, Elizabeth Harms and husband Brady, three granddaughters; Chelsea Emmons, Savannah Bardsley and Ava Bardsley, one grandson, Barrett Harms and one great granddaughter, Holland Emmons. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 6 at 10:30 am.at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home with the Reverend Karen Dorris of FUMC officiating. A reception will follow immediately.
