Shiloh, Illinois - Royal Wayne Alvey, 96, resident of Shiloh, formally of Eldorado passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Royal was born December 7, 1925 in Harrisburg, Illinois to the late Raymond L. and Mildred R. (Payne) Alvey. He Married the former Dorothy Lee Ridley who preceded him in death. Royal served in the US Navy during WWII. For the majority of his career he traveled and sold Agriculture products around the region. He was a member of the Equality Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Mason for over 50 years. He was a past Grand Master of the Equality Lodge (1955). Later in life Royal earned his real estate license and remained very active selling acreage and farmland. Royal was very active throughout his life, he owned and flew his own plane, he was an avid golfer, he enjoyed snow skiing, rollerskating and even kayaked poolside at the age of 95. He enjoyed spending time in his workshop building replica cars, tables and porch swings. He volunteered at the Shriners Hospital, Belleville Optimist Club and more. Royal is survived by two children: Thomas Randall "Randy" (Fay) Alvey of Swansea, Robin Lee (Mark Vanosdol) Buesking of St. Louis, MO, a sister: Barbara Farris of Ridgway, four grandchildren: Stephanie Jane MacLennan Alvey, Graham Randall (Nichole) Alvey, Terra Lee (Nathan) Edwards, Derek Buesking, four great grandchildren: Charolette, Colin, Morgan and Samantha and his ex-wife: Mary Lou Hancock of Indiana. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a brother: John Edd Alvey and three sisters: Vivian Urmanski, Mildred Raye Alvey and Ruth Ella Hayden. Masonic services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022 with funeral services immediately following at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with Kenneth Hayden officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 10:00 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital or the Equality Masonic Lodge and will be accepted at the funeral home.
