Samuel Caesar Obituary

PITTSFIELD -- Samuel Lawrence Caesar, 78, of 3 Robbins Ave., died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Dalton on Feb. 11, 1929, son of John and Elizabeth Evans Caesar, he was educated in local schools.

Mr. Caesar was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

A longtime tree surgeon, he was employed by John J. Flynn Tree Surgeon. He also worked at General Electric Co. as a core builder in the power transformer department for five years and was employed by the city of Pittsfield in its sanitation department.

He enjoyed fishing, doing jigsaw puzzles and working on cars.

He and his wife, the former Marjorie I. Logan, were married Oct. 15, 1949, at First Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Dennis C. Caesar of Sarasota, Fla., and Stanley W. Caesar of Pittsfield; a sister, Gertrude Caesar Howell of New York City; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A daughter, Claudia James Whittington, is deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Samuel L. Caesar, who died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Willard H. Durant, pastor emeritus of Price Memorial AME Zion Church. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Center, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Mr. Caesar also leaves an uncle, Frank Caesar; three aunts, Edith and Ruth Evans, and Marion Bethel; seven grandchildren, Earl Thibodeau, Jodi Massaro, Alisha Carderella, Jami, Samantha and Kaitlin Caesar, and Jena Williamson; and seven great-grandchildren, Quinn Caesar, Marcel Thibodeau, Leighana and Cameron Williamson, and Ava, Trey and Joseph Massaro.
