Louis Lavoilette Doyen Wise (Louie), 87, passed away Saturday morning at Eagle Cliff Manor in Billings. Born Dec 13, 1923, in Rapelje, Mont., to Albert and Geneva Wise, and grew up on the family homestead where his family grew wheat and raised sheep. Due to the depression, around the age of 10, his family moved into Billings. As a young man, Louis worked for Midland Review Newspaper typesetting. In December of 1942, Louie joined the U.S. Army and served his country during WWII in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. After leaving the service, Louie married and had his first child, Louis Mathew Wise. During this time he rough-necked in Glendive. In 1957 he divorced his first wife and 11 years later, married Donna May Hofferber in August 1968. They had one daughter, Kristie Lee Wise (Boelter).
Louie was very resourceful and could recycle and design anything to fit his needs. He found enjoyment in geology and would go gold mining in Radersburg, Mont., during the summers. He was an exceptional artist, although he never found time to cultivate his talent. He devoted his time instead to being a husband and father. Louie was always thinking of ways to show he loved you because he was a little afraid to say it. Maybe his fear lied in that speaking so, it would certainly mean you would be taken from him. Louie lost his first child in 1977. Louie was a kind, generous man, and it wasn't uncommon for him to give his things away to anyone he thought needed it more than him. Once he even gave away a 1960 Cadillac!
