Lorraine Butts Nelson, 84, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. Lorraine, a cherished wife, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and brave soul, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Her beloved husband, Tom Nelson, joined her in eternal rest, as he passed away six days after her, a testament to the unbreakable bond they shared.
She was born in Tacoma Park, Maryland to the late, Wesley Butts and Florence Hayden Butts. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother, Charlie Blair.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Tammy Duarte & husband, Oscar of Holly Springs, NC, Nancy Gaddy & husband, Fin of Manteo, NC, and Tommy Nelson, Jr. of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Brown and Charles Gaddy, and Kayla Nelson; and a great grandchild, Brielle Nelson; a nephew and several nieces.
In addition to her role as a wife and mother, Lorraine touched the lives of many others. Her kindness, compassion, and gentle nature left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She loved her church and her church family at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Elizabethtown NC.
While we mourn the loss of Lorraine, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate the lives of Lorraine and Tom Nelson will be held on Monday, July 24th at 11 am at Butler Funeral Home Chapel, 6535 Clinton Road, Stedman NC. Rev. Louis Pender will be officiating. Burial will follow at White Plains Presbyterian Church Cemetery (8395 Rosindale Road, Council, NC 28434).

Lorraine is one of the sweetest, most kind and generous ladies I have ever been privileged to know. Her faith, as strong as it gets; her life a testament to her faith in her Lord; a gentle Soul who saw good in all people and circumstances. What huge joy she has brought to this world. St. Christopher´s Episcopal Church, Elizabethtown, NC absolutely adored her. She is our sister in Christ, and our Angel now from above, very much with us, always.
