FRANCIS MCCARTHY Obituary

McCARTHY, Francis X. of East Bridgewater, passed away on March 7, 2022. Frank, the son of Francis X. McCarthy and Mary (Mulcahy) McCarthy, was born in Medford, MA. After graduating Boston College High School, he entered St. John's Seminary and later received a M.Ed. in Counseling Psychology from Boston College.

Frank became a Catholic priest in the Diocese of Paterson, NJ. He served in the U.S. Army as an Airborne Captain, 101st Airborne Division, as a paratrooper chaplain with tours in Korea and Japan. He later became Pastor of an inner-city parish in NJ. He was involved in many projects in the African American and Latino communities.

After leaving the priesthood, Frank became a diversity recruiting and candidate sourcing pioneer. He founded Xavier Associates and later Diverse Workplace, Inc., to focus on diversity recruiting. In 2011, the Northeast Human Resources Association presented Frank with their Diversity Champion Award, which they later named the "Frank X. McCarthy Champion Award." For many years, he served as the President of the Massachusetts Professional Placement Consultants and the President of the Board of Trustees of the Brockton Neighborhood Health Center.

Frank enjoyed vacationing at the Humarock cottage and all the parties with his family and friends. He was an avid fan and season ticket holder of the Patriots, Red Sox, and Giants. He enjoyed swimming and running.

Frank is survived by his wife Virginia "Ginny"; his children Janice McCarthy, Lisa Saba and Mark Mojkowski, John McCarthy and Maribeth; his grandchildren, Bayley, Shannon, Rose, and Sean; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Wayne Cashion; his sister, Mary Hayes; and several nieces, a nephew, cousins, and many friends.

Thank you to all his friends who kept in touch the last couple of years. Your calls and cards meant the world to Frank. Our family is grateful for the compassionate care shown to us by the staff, aides and nurses at Old Colony Hospice, the VA, and his doctor.

Frank will be remembered for all the lives he's touched and changed. All services will be private. A Celebration of Frank's Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.See www.ChapmanFuneral.com for directions and online condolences.

I just learned of Frank's passing, and I'm saddened. Please accept my condolences. My father served as Frank's assistant while stationed in Korea, and I am named after him. I didn't spend as much time with Frank as I would have liked, but we spoke on the phone regularly for a long time. Frank and my late mother had a very close relationship, which she valued greatly. Frank will be missed.

Frank was my mentor in this search and staffing industry. I am ever grateful for this but more importantly recognize the contributions he made to the African American community, the Catholic faith community and of course to his family and friends.
