JULIA SETON Obituary

SETON, Julia Meredith Julia Meredith Seton (February 22, 1953 - September 17, 2018) died of respiratory failure due to the late complications of treatment for Hodgkin's Disease. She was 65. Her life might be written in chapters, beginning as a child in Northampton on Harrison Avenue, and bicycling through the landscape of the Smith College campus. The second follows her graduation from Bryn Mawr College in 1973 where she received a BA in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology. She then moved to London to pursue a profession in art restoration. In 1988 a complicated chapter begins with marriage to a solicitor in London; these years were marred by a relapse in her cancer requiring a bone marrow transplant. She divorced in 2002, and started a new chapter in her life when she pursued a MA in Social and Cultural History at the University of London. She worked for Amnesty International and taught in classrooms where immigrant children were struggling with English as a second language and with the difficulty of integration as adolescents into British society. The themes that ran through each of these chapters were her work as an artist; her passionate love of Italy; and her deep belief in fighting for social justice. She leaves the love of friends and family, and memories of a rich and independent life. Donations in her name may be made to Amnesty International or Bryn Mawr College. Services have been held.
