Derek DAVIS Obituary
Reverend Doctor Derek Davis, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at his home. Derek is survived and will be sorely missed by his children: Branwyn (Albert) Card, Skylar (Jamie) Davis, & Dylan Davis, Aaron Briggs and their mother Linda Baroody; his grandchildren: Riley Davis, Layla Card & Kendrick Davis; his siblings: Debra (Gary) Murphy & Paul (Pavlina) Davis; his best friend Howie Jamison; his niece & nephew: Joanna (Corey) Murphy & Christopher Davis; and many, many friends. Family and friends may call from 4p - 7pm on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday, March 10 at the funeral home. Burial with committal prayers and full military honors will occur immediately after at the Bath National Cemetery, Bath NY; everyone is invited to join the family for a Celebration of Derek's life at the Wayland American Legion where food, beverages and stories will be shared. In true Derek Davis style, tie dye attire is encouraged by all! Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Walter E. Baird & Sons Funeral Home in Wayland. my papa was the best papa out there he would do little things like take me and my sister to mcdonalds i would enjoy that because i would have the best time with him. he would pick me up at 3:15 so he can take riley to her therapy sessions and we would go to tops and get food like half of ramen bowls and it was enjoyable he would do anything for the people he cared about and would do the littlest things to make sure that you knew that he was thinking about you and i will miss that and i will miss him. he would get me dressed in the morning 1grade-4th grade and we would have the best time together. the day when me and skylar where going to see him because he haven´t texted in 2 days nor did we see him we were just about to leave to find him when skaylar got a call from someone i saw in his eyes that it was something bad he hung up and said do you think that you could watch the baby for 30 mins not even and i said yes i over thinked it and i knew something happened i cried before i even knew what was going on the baby helped me through it later wile i was still alone emma called me she said do you know and i said no but i knew deep down what had happened she said ill let your mom tell you later my mom got there and she told me i will never forget that moment. thousands of tears came down my eyes and every day more and more come. im going to miss his gentle hugs and voice i just want to tell him i love him one more time and to hear his funny jokes he was the best at jokes that is what ill miss the most

I had the great pleasure to know Derek for the past 30 years and worked with him for 20 at RPC. Derek was an incredible guy with an amazing sense of humor and wit. He was always kind, generous and thoughtful. Derek was incredibly smart and always had amazing insight into many topics. Both of us served in the military and would often share stories from our time in.
I'll also never forget the time we went to see the Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan at Darien Lake..what a time! I will miss you buddy but will always fondly remember you!

Derek was my best friend all through high school. We won the Monroe County Chess Championship together and spent many hours across the board from each other. We spent every day together for the better part of five years, delivering papers and eating pizza. Our love for the Beatles was a constant. Derek changed my life from one of obedience to valuing my own identity. The time we spent together remains the highlight of my life. As far as I'm concerned, he will never be gone but always with me as the best friend I ever had.
