Helen Winters Obituary

Helen S. (Ostapowitz) Winters, 68, of Butler passed away at 4:22 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 18, 1947, in Atlantic City, N.J., to the late Joseph Ostapowitz and Helen (McCurdy) Ostapowitz.
Helen worked at the VA Butler Healthcare Medical Center as a file clerk for 30 years, retiring Dec. 31, 2014.
She was a veteran of U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a staff sergeant during the Vietnam War. Helen was a member of the American Legion Post 117.
She enjoyed shopping with her granddaughter. Helen loved music, dancing and spending time with her family and her dog, Trixie. She was very proud of her service.
Helen is survived by two sons, Danny E. Winters of Downingtown, Pa., and Bryan G. Winters and his wife, Kim, of Aston, Pa.; one daughter, Melissa M. Hensel and her husband, Steve, of Butler; four grandchildren, Jonathon and Kyle Winters, Adam Campbell and Bayleigh Hensel; and her dear friend, Joe Cooper.
WINTERS - Friends of Helen S. Winters, who died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Kurt Knobel, pastor, officiating.
Officers and members of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 of Butler will conduct military honors at the funeral home.

My deepest sympathy to Helen's family. She will be greatly missed. I was blessed to be able to work with Helen at the VA and she always greeted you with a smile and tons of energy! She made many smile!

My condolences to Helen's family at this sad time. I worked at the VA and always enjoyed Helen's stories of her military service, especially when she was a Drill Sargeant. She was a delightful character and I'm sure she will be greatly missed.

Melissa, Danny and Brian, I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a sweet, funny lady. I enjoyed visiting and talking about old times , and mostly about you guys, when she was at the VA.
She will be missed.

My sympathies to all of Helen's loved ones. I hadn't known about her illness and did miss seeing her at the VA. I met Helen over 20 years ago when she came into my salon. I remember her full of energy and always cheerful and smiling.
