Phyllis June Soper Park
Phyllis June Soper Park, 88, of Butler passed away at 6:20 a.m. Sunday at her daughter's home in Moon Township.
She was born June 7, 1924, in Coudersport, to the late Lynn Gitchell Soper and Florence (Darby) Soper.
Mrs. Park was a longtime active member and deacon of the Faith United Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. She graduated from Coudersport High School in 1942 and then went on to attend Temple University School of Nursing in Philadelphia. Mrs. Park was in the U.S. Cadet Student Nurse Corps and became a registered nurse in 1947. She was the head nurse in the delivery room at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia from 1947 to 1951.
Mrs. Park was a longtime member of the Butler Country Club. She was a past member of the Western Pennsylvania Women's Golf Association and a 50-year active member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). Mrs. Park enjoyed family, golf, bridge, reading and friends.
Mrs. Park is survived by one son, Boyd N. "Bruce" Park Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Basking Ridge, N.J.; one daughter, Nancy H. Park, M.D. and her husband, Luke L. Hingson, of Moon Township; one son-in-law, John Garnham of Brentwood, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Luke S.P. Hingson, George D.P. Hingson, Carolyn Park Garnham, Kevin Park Garnham, Norma Jean Park and Bruce N. Park.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd N. Park, M.D., who she married on June 9, 1951, and who passed away on Jan. 25, 1994. She also was preceded in death by three daughters, Carole Lynn Park, Sally Jo Park and Susan Park Garnham; and one sister, Patricia Grine.
PARK - Friends of Phyllis June Soper Park, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will follow at noon officiated by the Rev. Donald Aull of the Faith United Presbyterian Church.
Burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brothers Brother Foundation, 120 Galveston Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15233; to the Community Health Clinic, 103 Bonnie Drive, Butler, PA 16001; or to the Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N. Main St. Extension, Butler, PA 16001.

your Mother was a wonderful friend..she gave me much encouragment on the golf course! Your Dad and Malcolm shared a lot of hospital time..Our families had Peace Corps connections....Nancy and Eric both in Liberia! Dear Nancy, Bruce and Families,
She was the best of the best and always one we could look up to. We loved her like a sister and now she rests in the arms of Jesus and that very special guy...Boyd.We have 35 years of memories that we still speak of often. May God comfort and bless you with the peace of knowing her reward has been given her.
