Dennis Loiselle Obituary

LOISELLE, DENNIS CLINTON Retired MSG E-8 Dennis C. Loiselle, 73, Bowie, died of fast-onset sepsis in hospice care, in the presence of his family, in Anne Arundel Medical Center on June 6. Son of Royal Charles and Marian Emma (Chapman) Loiselle, Dennis was born 8 March 1941 in Cornell, Wisconsin. His parents relocated to Minnesota, where they divorced when he was a boy. He was lovingly raised in Bloomington and Outing by Marian and his step-father Emmert "Tex" Berry. Married forty-six years to Dawnelle (Giles) of Harriman, Tennessee, he has always been cherished by her, his daughter Michelise "Mikki," and son Russell, and by his grandchildren, Hope, Noah, and Kathrine, all of whom survive him. Dennis also leaves behind his sisters Jill Berry (Howard) Dahlberg and Joyce Berry (Orville) Mossberg; brothers Bobbe and Jack Berry. His sister Barbara Jean Loiselle and brothers Donald and Lon Berry predeceased him, as did his birth father, mother, and step-father. Although Dennis was a draftee during the Vietnam War, he subsequently made the US Army his main career, proudly serving for twenty years. He was a well commended soldier. He worked mostly in administrative positions at the DMZ in Korea; at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Forts Campbell and Knox, Kentucky; in offices of Emergency Actions and Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon; at Headquarters Southern Command at Quarry Heights, Panama, the American Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and in the US Standardization Group attached to the American Embassy in Canberra, Australia. As a veteran, he worked as a facility security officer for GTE and as facility manager for PhRMA. He was a member of ASIS, an international organization for security professionals. He retired in 2005. He learned three months later that he had Parkinson's. In retirement, Dennis loved meeting with members of the Bowie Parkinson's Support Group; playing pinochle with his Monday-Thursday card group; singing in the Bowie Senior Chorale; visiting the Prince George's Genealogy library and attending its meetings with his wife; gardening; antiquing; traveling near and sometimes further; and visiting with and hugging his children and grandchildren, all of whom made him inordinately proud. Dennis has been cremated. His remains will be interred following a military funeral with honors at Arlington National Cemetery. A time is yet undetermined. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting one of the national Parkinson's groups to help find a cure.

I was very saddened to hear my “favorite uncle” had passed away. Uncle Dennis as I always called him was a kind, gentle and honorable man. He was always offering to help anyone. When he came over to visit us with my aunt Dawnelle, and his family, after a cup of coffee or glass of tea in the summer he would jump up and fix at least 3 to 6 things a day! He would paint, repair or just adjust anything that needed it. He would always help even us little ones, and once saved me in a hot shower when I was about 5 or 6. I have always looked up to him and tried my best to emulate him at many times too. I was even blessed to have him pop in on me while I was stationed in Texas as he was flying on a military airlift going back home. It was a great visit. He was an awesome uncle. I am sure he will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. I know I will. God bless him and his family, Dawnelle, Mikki and Russ.

Dennis will be missed greatly in the Senior Chorale because of his very pleasant attitude and demeanor.
