Michael Richard Smoot, 57, died suddenly January 18. He was born to Jack and Beverly Smoot at the Bethesda Naval Hospital on September 2, 1954. He and his family lived in Prince George's County, Baltimore City and Baltimore County. Mike enlisted in the Navy and served two years. He will be remembered as a business partner and a Sales Manager of the Annapolis Junque Boutique, a position he held for 15 years, and as Vice President of Marjorie House, Inc., a not-for-profit organization assisting homeless recovering alcohol and drug abusers. For the last five years, he was employed by Capitol MRO, Inc. of Annapolis as a Certified Professional Specimen Collector. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Jack and Beverly. Mike is survived by a daughter, Mica Jean Smoot of Belair; a sister and brother-in-law Donna and Sonny Carter of Joppa; a brother and sister-in-law John and Joann Smoot of Belair; a sister Jacquelyn Ferren of Cambridge; a sister Irma Farmer of Forest Hills; and a business partner, friend and mentor, S. Martin Keithline of Davidsonville with whom he lived with for almost 25 years. A celebration of his life will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, at the Country Inn and Suites, 2600 Housley Road (corner of Route 450), Annapolis. Friends and family may call between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. There will be light refreshments served. A eulogy in celebration of Mike's life will follow from 4 p.m. Flowers, cards, kind words and even funny stories of Mike will be graciously received and will help the family and those closest to him process his untimely passing. Arrangements are by Maryland Cremation Services, Baltimore. Interment is private in Sandwich, MA.

Mike added life, laughter and wisdom to everyone who knew him. He was as confortable in a tux as he was providing assistance to a homeless person. He achieved what most never do, he was happy being him. I will truly miss him.
