Richard Heller Obituary

HELLER, Richard Richard P. Heller of Mt. Pleasant SC passed away on November 7, 2008 at Franke Home at Seaside with Carolyn Sharpe Heller, his wife of 68 years, at his side. Mr. Heller is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sharpe Heller of Mt Pleasant, SC; and his three sons, Richard P. Heller, Jr. ( Dick ) of Stokes, NC and Betty Jo; Robert Christian Heller ( Chris ) of Jacksonville, FL and Linda; and Peter R. Heller of Dunwoody, GA and Sarah. He is also survived by his grandchildren Cynthia Jones ( Cindy ), Richard P. Heller, III, Kevin M. Heller, Jennifer Leanne Olinger, William S. Heller, and Sarah Randal Heller and by his great-grandchild Paula Jo Heller. Mr. Heller was born in Charlotte NC in 1916 to the late Edward E. In his time with Dupont, Mr. Heller worked in Wilmington, DE; Seaford, DE; Martinsville, VA; Kinston, NC; Old Hickory, TN; and Charleston, SC. Mr. Heller chose Charleston as his last assignment with Dupont so that he and Mrs. Heller could retire in close proximity to some of the best fishing holes in the southeast. Mr. Heller was an enthusiastic and talented man. He was a skilled woodworker as well as an artist, a former boxer, a golfer, an intimidating tennis player, a shrewd poker player and a great fisherman. He was a loyal friend to the many people he met in all the places he lived and worked during his long life. As the proud head of the Heller family, he will be fondly remembered by his wife, his sons, his grandchildren and great-grandchild for his loving nature, consistent leadership and lighthearted playfulness. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 11 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's Church, Mt. Pleasant, SC. Visitors will be received in Sam's Hall immediately following the ceremony. Dear Carolyn,

We are all saddened by the loss of Richard Sr.; however, we want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. On behalf of the UNC Tar Heel family we will miss and celebrate Richard's life and may your skies be forever Carolina Blue.

You all are in our thoughts and prayers. It is interesting that this Time- came as UNC celebrated their Homecoming . . .rather ironic perhaps. The day stated dark and rainy, but by gametime -the sky was beautiful Carolina Blue- and the HEELS stood with Authority over the Ramblin Wreck of Ga Tech. All for a Homecoming on the Hill, in many ways . . . .
