I too knew Fr Barrett from 1st through 3rd grades at Sts Peter & Paul in Naperville. Father Barrett was one of the priests who officiated at my first communion on May 21st, 1961. He is in the photo taken on the alter of the church as it was going through renovation. Father Barrett was a favorite of me & my classmates & siblings. He was a warm, gentle & kind man who could relate to even the youngest of the faithful and taught us what it meant to love God our Father.
Blessings to the family as Father Barrett sings with the angels & looks over us all.

Dear Father Barrett, We were so sorry to hear of you passing. Our first meeting with you was when you baptized our son Anthony in 1972 at St Alexander's Parish as a young priest. Later you returned to St Alexander's as our pastor and married our daughters Angela and Gina. We admired and respected you as a wonderful priest and role model of the church. You will always be a part of our life in villa park. May God Bless and reward you dearly for your dedication to the Catholic Church. You can take the little boy out of Villa Park but not Villa Park out of the little boy !!! Thank you Father !!! Love Mitch & Rose Ann

Dear Father Barrett, My very first meeting of you was as a priest at St Aexander Church with the baptism of our son Anthony. You came back as our pastor which made me very happy because I admired you so much as a model priest. In later years you married both my daughters Angela and Gina. Thank you Father Barrett for being part of our life memories in villa park. We will remember you always and may God Bless you for your devotion to the Catholic Church as a perfect priest. You could take the !little boy out of Villa Park but not Villa Park out of the little boy !!! Thank you Father !!! Love Mitch & Rose Ann Koyer !!!

So sad to hear of Fathers passing. He married us October 17, 1998 at Mary Queen of Heaven. One of my fondest memories of the day was at dinner when he stood to say the blessing, he made sure he mentioned he had never heard such a strong group of Amen"ers" at mass. R.I.P. Father Barrett, you will be missed. Thank you for the blessings you bestowed on us almost 16 years ago.

The Barrett family intersected with my own several times through the years. Tom Barrett was my brother's college roommate and Fr. John was at St. A's where my parents went for over 44 years. He said both of their funeral Masses and I was extremely touched by how personal he made their eulogies. My sincere condolences to his family on their loss.

We are so sad to hear that Father Barrett passed away. He married my husband and I and 3 of my siblings. One fond memory of our ceremony was his reassurance to all of us about the storm the night before, August 9, 1984. My Irish Mother Law appreciated it. He was always very supportive of my parents at Notre Dame Church in Clarendon Hills, IL.

Father John was a rarity in this day and age...he was always priest first, but then friend and our shepherd. He was family and he will be so missed. But for all the greatness he did on this earth, we're certain he will be a bright light shining down on us from heaven. He has welcomed our children and grandchildren into this world and has sent parents off to their eternal life. Father John...eternal rest grant unto you ... it is your turn.
To the Barrett family, thank you for sharing the gift of John Barrett with so many. It is time for all of us to find our peace in his peace.

Dear Family,
We are old Dominic Club alumni. Father John married us on October 5th, 1968 at St. Michael's in Wheaton. Over the years, we've kept in touch at Christmas, with cards, notes, and photos, and looked forward to his Epiphany Newsletter each January. He was a very special person in our lives, and a very holy man. He will be missed by so many! "God love him"!

To all the Barrett Family: Our hearts are breaking to hear of the loss of Fr. John Barrett. He was the greatest Chaplain to our Naperville Dominic Club for over 50 years He married us, buried us, baptized our children, partyed with us at every New Year's Eve Party at Notre Dame and offered us the use of his hall. He traveled with us on numerous Dominic vacations to Europe run by Jim Pilz. He was the life and spirit of our club and he supported us, guided us, led us, offered advice, and was there with us on so many Dominic memories. When our Club started to die, Father Barrett planned pizza meetings at his rectory and picnics each summer to keep our friendships alive that had been shared for so many years. To us Father Barrett will always be "JB" the best chaplain any club could ever have; a chaplain and great person and friend who always believed in us, supported us, and was always there with us every step of the way for over 50 years. To a life well lived. You will be greatly missed.
Love and hugs to you.

It has been a pleasure to have Fr John as a neighbor. We will treasure the memory of him watching the Chicago Blackhawks final playoff game with us. Knowing him as a regular guy and as a Priest was special. We know he did not want to leave us behind on this earth, but was accepting of his fate knowing that eternal life that awaited him. His courage and faith is a lesson to all of us.
Love and prayers,

There are few priests who had the capacity of Fr. John to respond to people's needs the way Fr. John did. Fr. John had the sensitivity and the warmest of hearts to reach out to others. This rare quality held Fr. John in good stead with whomever he met.

Dear Diane, Marilyn, Tom, Michael and all of your families, we are deeply sorry to hear about the death of Fr. John. He always had a smile on his face and was a joy to be around. We feel lucky we got to know him a little better during the times he visited grandma while we lived in her building and when he stayed with mom out in Arizona. I have no doubt there is a big party going on in heaven with his parents, aunts and uncles and of course his beloved double-cousins. I am sad we will not make it to his services but please know we will be there in spirit and are sending you many, many hugs and lots of love during this difficult time. Love, Maureen, Brianna and Shane, and Aubree
