Tom Thompson Obituary

Tom Truely Thompson died on July 24, 2014 in Elmhurst. He was 87. He was born on Oct 11, 1926 in Chicago. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1948 with a degree in Dairy Management and Technology. He spent 23 years with the Dean Foods, starting as a salesman and rising to National Sales Manager of the company's Fluid Milk Division. He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago in June 1968. He went on to take senior executive positions in the food industry with such companies as Shultze and Burch, Southland Corporation, Silverwood Dairy, and Keystone Foods. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, travel and golf. He achieved a Grand Slam, which was taking all four of North America's major trophy sheep. His wife of 67 years, Isabel Hendel Thompson, and their children survive him: Jean Thompson of Urbana, IL; Paul Thompson and his wife Mary Thompson of Baton Rouge, LA; Ann Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK and John Thompson and his wife Laurie Blakely of Makanda, IL. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Peter Thompson and his wife Jennifer Thompson, Michael Thompson, Sarah Wight and her husband Allen Wight, Mark Alexander, and Robin Thompson. Two great-grandchildren, Henry and Caroline Thompson, and a step great-grandson George Kelley also survive him. He was preceded in death by his father and mother George and Della Thompson. A Memorial service will be held at the Lexington Square Senior Residence, 400 W. Butterfield Road, Elmhurst, on Saturday August 16 at 10:00 AM.
