Duane M. Colvin, age 54, of Menomonie, died suddenly on Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Myrtle Werth Hospital-Mayo Health System in Menomonie.
Duane was born July 26, 1949, in Elkhorn to Robert and Ruth (Ives) Colvin. He grew up in Walworth and graduated in 1967 from Big Foot High School in Walworth. He entered the service and served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969 to 1976, serving two tours in Vietnam.
Duane married Katherine Svoboda on Oct. 14, 1972, in Elkhorn. After leaving the military due to his disability, the family moved back to Wisconsin. Duane attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and then transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Stout where he studied graphic arts and photography and remained the rest of his life.
Duane enjoyed music, photography and hand drumming. The focus of his life was his family, his wife, two daughters, and four grandchildren. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Duane is survived by his wife, Kathy; two daughters, Veronica (Scott) Ellingson of Hudson and Valerie (Joshua) Davidson of Menomonie; four grandchildren, Isaac and Jacob Ellingson and Leah and Dinah Davidson; his father, Robert Colvin of Elkhorn; one sister, Marcia (Bill) Sidwell of Rochester Hills, Mich.; four brothers, James of Menomonie, Peter (Ruby) of Fredericksburg, Va., Brian (Tracy) of Youngstown, Ohio, and Bruce (Kathy) of Harwich, Mass.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth (Ives) Colvin, and a brother, Richard.
Funeral services are 3 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, at the First Congregational Church in Menomonie with the Rev. Rob MacDougall officiating.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
Stanton-Goodrich-Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie is serving the family.
