Leila R. Hakes, 90, former Cadott area resident, died Sat. Feb. 21, 2004, at Lakeside Nursing Home in Chippewa Falls.
She was born Feb. 17, 1914, in the town of Sigel, the daughter of Harry L. and Minnie (LaFaive) Smith. She grew up and went to school in the town of Sigel.
Leila married Chester Hakes on July 3, l929. They lived on several different farms, all in Chippewa County. She entered the Lakeside nursing home in 1992 where she has since resided.
Her interests were her scrapbooks covering World War II and other newspaper articles about relatives and friends.
She is survived by: a son, James (Donna) Hakes; granddaughter, Colleen (Robert) Galbraith; grandsons, Michael (Wendy) and Gregory Hakes; a great-granddaughter, Sara Galbraith; great-grandson, Adam Hakes; special friend Stanley Voecks; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Chester; brothers, Virgil (Gertrude), Herman (Anne), James, Edward (Eunice), and Earl (Elvira); and a sister Dorothy (Rudy) Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Mae Rowan Ecumenical Center at Lakeside in Chippewa Falls with Rev. Gerald Mann officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery in Chippewa Falls.
Leiser Funeral Home, Cadott, is handling arrangements.
