Janis Brunkow Obituary

WAMEGO Janis Marie Brunkow, 60, of Wamego, Kansas, died late in the evening on Sunday, September 11, 2005 at the Wamego City Hospital, following her battle with cancer. Janis was born in Seattle, Washington to her parents, Charles V. and Marylin (Barr) Miller. She moved to Lawrence, Kansas area in her early childhood, where she attended grade school and graduated from Lawrence High School. Janis graduated from Emporia State Teacher's College in 1966 and taught at the Wamego Elementary School as a 4th and 5th grade teacher for several years. On August 1, 1969, she was united in marriage to Darold Gene Brunkow in Lawrence, Kansas. He survives. Janis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wamego, where she was very active and taught Sunday School for over 20 years. She served as the church treasurer for several years, was involved in the Council of Churches and the C.R.O.P walk. She had also helped with the local 4-H as a project leader. Janis leaves behind her husband Darold Brunkow, of the home; her mother, Marylin Miller, of Wamego; two children and their spouses, Glenn and Jennifer Brunkow, of Westmoreland, and Andrea and Scott Marquis, of Topeka; two brothers, Jim Miller, Vinita, OK, and Carl Miller and his wife Connie of Alma, KS; along with her grandchildren, Isaac and Tatum Brunkow, and Shawn Marquis. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Miller. As per her wishes, Janis's remains have been willed to medical science for the study of cancer research. A memorial service of remembrance will be held Thursday, September 15th at 11:00 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Wamego with Rev. Dr. Terry Moser officiating. Memorials, in-lieu of flowers, are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund. Memorials may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, KS, 66547, who is in care of services.
