Luke was always a kind, gentle person, ready to help others. He was an angel on earth and blessed to be God's chosen one. Take refuge in God and trust in Him. We will remember Luke and pray for understanding and constant faith.

Dear
Steve, Janice,and Melissa--I can finally send you our condolances in
your tragic loss of Luke. He was a boy every parent would be proud to
have, a young man who contributed so much to others, and we want to ask
why, but all we need to know is that God is crying with you, and that
Luke is running again.
I would hope you can use the prayer shawl I made for Luke to drape over your shoulders for comfort.
It is filled with prayers for God's healing, and strength and comfort.
Just know our family is praying with heavy hearts for you all.

Dear Steve, Jan, Melissa nd the entire family of Lucus,
I am so sorry that I missed Steves visit to BryanLGH on Friday and am so very sorry that Lucus lost his life in such an unfortunate way after all of his hard work.His attitude and determination was such an inspiration to all of us and he is the kind of person who makes our work make a difference. You all touched the 6 North staff in more ways than you will ever know. We all grew as people as well as professionals because of Lucas and the committed support you all gave to him.
I did call my brother Richard who suffered a similar injury and he visited Lucus. He was so sad to hear of his passing. I am sure you will hear from him.
Please know that the people who had the great opportunity to meet Lucus and all of his family will cheer on KU in honor of Lucus and all of you.

Steve, Janice & Melissa,
Words cannot express the sympathy we have for all of you. What a tragic and hurtful time. I saw my parents pain when they lost one of my sisters at 21 years old also. I did not know Lucas, but if he was anything like "Dad", he was a kind, caring person. I saw his picture in the paper. He had a most beautiful smile, that warmed my heart. I know that you will never get over this, but I will pray to God, that you may someday learn to live with it. God bless, and you're in my prayers.

To The Family of Luke Short,
While in prayer, after the Rosary, I prayed a healing prayer over Luke. My spirit kept getting, breath of life breathe on me, just like in the song. There was a moment when I saw movement of the two leaves that overlapped the open casket. I took that as confirmation of Lukes presence with God. May you receive grace to accept God's will for him, take courage in your faith and continue to trust God for direction in your lives. Luke's goodness was a blessing to us all. Sometimes it takes a shock to show you how precious life is. I met Luke this summer when he was doing rehab at KRH. In our conversations I was impressed at how well he was handling the trauma from his spinal injury. I felt a bond with him because I was about the same age when I had my injury. I would like to think that my past experience helped him, but I do know that talking with him helped me. He showed great potential in life, a quality that is golden. Even though he is no longer with us, I will always have the memory of him and the impact he made on my life, as well as many others. I offer my condolences to the family and I would like them to know that I celebrate the short time I had talking with Luke.

Steve, Janice and the entire Short Family; I have prayed daily for Luke since the accident. There are no words I can say to help ease the pain right now. Please know that Luke can now stand tall again and walk with God. He will forever be your guiding angel. Steve knowing we had going through grade school at Holy Name together and then our boys (Nicholas & Luke) went to Hayden together was pretty cool. I truly enjoyed visiting with you when the boys got together. Know that no one can ever take the memories away; you raise a great kid, Luke was a wonderful, smart, honest and faithful son, God Bless you & your family and give you strength during this most difficult time.

We are sorry to hear of your great loss of your son. We lost our oldest child when he was 15 years old. We can not say we know how you feel, but we can identify with your feelings and pain. God has His plan and it is really hard to understand it sometimes, but we just have to trust that God knows what is best. Even though the time was short, Lucas must have accomplished all on this earth that God intended for him. I have heard what a really good kid he was. We are Marlene Sisson's parents, and though you don't really know us, we feel we know you from all the good things that Pete, Marlene & Heidi have said of Lucas and your family.

Luke and Melissa was my very first baby sitting job. I had the pleasure of watching Melissa and Luke grow up right down the street from us. I remember Luke being an honorary kid one time I was outside playing with Melissa and he locked us out of the house for about 20 minutes. He thought it was a game, until he saw my reaction. Luke was always trying to figure out how to make people laugh even at an early age. I will always remember him as an easy going, hard working kid who loved to ride his bike.
