Mary Jones Obituary

Mrs. Mary Ernestine Jones, 74, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, at St. Dominic Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation is Saturday, March 1, 2008, from 5-9 pm at Webb Funeral Home in Newton and Sunday, March 2, 2008, at 1 pm at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in the Hero Community located just south of Hickory on Hwy 503. Services are at 2 pm Sunday afternoon at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was born on March 12, 1933, to Bassell Earl Bolton, Sr., and Bessie Lee Chapman Bolton. She was a native of Newton County and lived her life in Newton. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
On May 5 1951, she married Bobby Gene Jones of the Hero Community and remained a faithful, loving, Christian wife for 55 years. After Bobby was called to preach in October 1982, she remained an active, loving pastor's wife for Fair Ridge Baptist Church in Stringer until in 1991 when Bobby had a stroke that ended his tenure. She had a true gift for bringing people together through activities and functions at Fair Ridge. After Bobby's retirement, she overtook the responsibility of planning senior citizen functions for Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She took tremendous joy in seeing people enjoy themselves in a fun Christian setting. She was a person who loved giving.
She was a sterling example of Christian love and giving to anyone she met. She was also a true "Southern Belle." Ernestine always displayed the qualities of a true Christian lady. Her family was her utmost treasure and brought her untold happiness. A shining light has dimmed on Earth today, and heaven is now richer for her presence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and older brother, Samuel Earl Bolton of Lawrence, MS.
She is survived by her two daughters, Mary "Lynn" and husband, Joe McGee of Lake, and Gloria Jean "Jane" and husband, Gary Beeland of Madison; six grandchildren, Jennifere Lynn "Jennie" McGee and husband, Chris Simmons of Lake, Joshua Robert McGee and wife, Erica of Lake, Jason Daniel McGee and wife, Stephenia of Lake, Ashley Cordelia Beeland and husband, James Todd Hardcastle of McKinney, TX, Heather Leigh Beeland of Madison, and Jacob Joe McGee of Lake; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn Elizabeth "Katie Beth" Simmons, Karalee Brianna "Kariana" Simmons, Seth Robert McGee, and Abigail Grace McGee, all of Lake, two great-granchildren who will be born in the next months, Jadon Lex Harper McGee (expected next week), and William Vance McGee (expected in April); two brothers, Bassell Earl Bolton, Jr., and wife, Bobbie, and Thomas Emmett Bolton and wife, Clydene, both of Newton.
Officiating the service will be Rev. John West of Newton, Rev. Tommy Anderson of Lake, Rev. Larry Duncan of Lake, and Rev. Jason McGee of Lake.
Pallbearers are Josh McGee, Jason McGee, Jacob McGee, Chris Simmons, J.T. Hardcastle, and Tommy Sparkman of Talladega, AL.
Honorary pallbearers are Emmett Bolton and Earl Bolton of Newton, and Ras Jones of Hero.

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of your mother; I have lost my mother too, and I understand the emptiness and hurt you feel. Be comforted knowing that she is reunited with your precious father. Both of them were highly regarded. My father (a minister) knew your father and thought a lot of him. Miss Ernestine was truly the epitome of a Southern lady; she was gracious and friendly. I always enjoyed driving by her house because it was so pretty and welcoming. May God be your strength and comfort as you pass through these days. My prayers will be with you.

I knew Bobby Jones when he delivered milk some 7 miles east of Decatur. I met Ms. Ernestine at BeeHive while attending my 99 year old aunt. In her infirmity she exhibited everything written in her obituary. I am sorry for your loss. These two were surely God's children shining the light of Christ to the world.
