Jerome Rosenfeld Obituary

New Jersey, Collingswood - JEROME "Jerry" ROSENFELD, 91, passed away Friday, October 27, 2006 at the home of his son Peter in Collingswood, NJ. Jerry was born in Manhattan, New York, to parents Samuel Rosenfeld and Rachel Leah Leiter Rosenfeld, immigrants from Holland and Galicia, Austria-Hungary. Post graduating with his BS degree from the University of Texas at Austin, Jerry continued his academic course work with a Masters degree in Bacteriology at Johns Hopkins University and Ph.D. course work at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed a two-year residency in Bacterial Cytology. In 1958, Jerry joined the staff at the University of Arkansas Medical center where he remained for 30 years. His academic appointments ranged from Instructor in Medicine to assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology and Medicine, the title he held at his retirement in 1985. In addition, Jerry's career included a multitude of research published in notable scientific journals. Known for his kindness, clever wit, knowledge and entertaining conversation, Jerry was much loved by his family and friends. He is survived by his cherished wife of 59 years, Ethel Marie Rosenfeld and children Jerome Peter Rosenfeld and wife Ann Babb of Collingswood, NJ, Diana Jean Rosenfeld and husband Dr. Jim Pang of Cordova, TN, George David Rosenfeld of Collingswood, NJ, and Deborah Rosenfeld Kohls and husband Jamie Kohls of Chapel Hill, NC. He was devoted to grandchildren Nathaniel Rosenfeld Pang of Memphis, TN, Joshua Hanners Pang of Cordova, TN, Leah Babb-Rosenfeld of Collingswood, NJ, Rachel "Shay" Kohls of Brooklyn, NY, Jessica Morgan Kohls of Raleigh, NC and Reid Christopher Kohls of Chapel Hill, NC. Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Dr. Rachel Ann Rosenfeld and was buried next to her in Chapel Hill, NC, on Wednesday, November 1, 2006. Ethel Rosenfeld currently resides at 301 West Franklin Avenue, Collingswood, NJ 08107.
