Loved that sweet Lester. I spent many Wednesday nights at his table enjoying church supper together. Age was no barrier to him; he loved everyone and he was much-loved by many (his surprise party last year was evidence of that.) Lifting his family up in prayer during this temporary time of separation.

Uncle Lester welcomed my family into his home, cooked us breakfast, laughed with us, and was genuinely interested in our lives. He had tremendous insight and could read my heart. I will always hold him in my thoughts as a dear gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor. To his children and grandchildren....he will live on in each one of you. God bless you.

John Phelps When my parents passed he was our surrogate father and I welcomed his calls to hear about the family and the reminiscing about my dad and his life with the family. He would call on my wife's and daughters birthday. We will miss him so much. Love you Uncle. God Bless Rae and Bill and Shelia

Rae,
I grieve along side you with many others as you mourn the passing of your father. While I didn't know him personally, I can judge his character from knowing you as his daughter. You are a true friend, and I am sorry for your loss.

Lester has been a part of my life for close to 60 years. As next door neighbors when I was growing up, I remember him playing leap frog with us neighborhood kids (he was always the frog, of course) and the homemade see-saw in his backyard that we all loved. He was a hard worker and a kind-hearted soul, always smiling. He used to sing little ditties around the house that made me laugh. One in particular that I recall was "Oh no no no, my feet are dirty on the bottom", sung with that Carolina twang, of course! I had so much fun playing with Sheila, Rae, and Bill. Even after they moved away from the neighborhood and everybody went their separate ways, Lester always kept in touch; especially with my mother. He was always so kind to her. I will certainly miss his occasional visits and phone calls and our discussions about "the good old days"... we were fortunate enough to grow up in a unique time, in a unique neighborhood, where everyone cared for one another and have remained lifelong friends. I know he loved the Lord and his church and was crazy about his family. I never heard Lester say an ugly word or an unkind thing about anybody. Instead, he always told me how blessed he was and how he didn't hold grudges or worry about anything. He will truly be missed by so many here, but Heaven has gained a very special person indeed.
My love and condolences to the family.

Lester and I worked together at two companies for many years and kept in contact for many years. I knew something was amiss when I called him not too long ago and his number was off. He was a great guy and will be missed.

Lester was a special buddy of mine at Trinity Baptist Church. I loved kidding around with him and getting a big hug on Sunday morning. He will be missed. Sharon Lammey
