Gene F. Mongan

1931 - 2013

LEESBURG, Fla. - Gene F. Mongan, 82, former resident of Concord and Chichester, died suddenly, but peacefully, at his home in Leesburg, Fla., Tuesday, May 21, 2013.

He was born in Plymouth, Mass., in 1931, the son of Edgar and Marguerite Mongan. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1948, attended Boston University, and served two years in the United States Marine Corps. He is a 1957 graduate of Notre Dame University, South Bend, Ind. Following his graduation from college, Gene spent most of his life in the field of computer technology.

He worked with IBM Corporation in Providence, R.I., as an instructor and with IBM World Trade Corporation in Abadan, Iran, as a computer analyst and programmer. When he returned from Iran, he worked briefly for the N.H. Department of Employment Security before opening Thomas Printing and Copying Center in Bicentennial Square, downtown Concord - a spot where he was best known to the people of Concord.

He later returned to independent computer work as a contract analyst and programmer at Bank of Boston in Boston and Liberty Mutual Insurance in Portsmouth.

He spent 15 of his later years as an administrator at the HypnoBirthing Institute, an international childbirth education organization and family business, headquartered in New Hampshire.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marie Flanagan Mongan, of the Villages, Florida; two daughters, Michelle Shoemaker of Pembroke and Nancy Kelley of California; two sons, Steven Mongan and Kevin Mongan of San Francisco; three stepsons, Wayne Flanagan of Brookline, Brian Kelly of Chichester and Shawn Mongan of Rochester, N.Y.; one stepdaughter, Maura Geddes of Bow; one sister, Lydia Stenzel of New Paltz, N.Y.; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
