Jean Leahy Obituary

LEAHY Jean M. Leahy, age 69 previously of Newtown entered into eternal peace Saturday evening, September 6, 2008 at the Masonic Health Care Center, Wallingford. Mrs. Leahy was wife of the late William R. Leahy. She was born and raised in Melrose, Mass., February 24, 1939, a daughter of the late Grafton and Lois Crocker. Mrs. Leahy was a graduate of the Children's Hospital Nursing School in Boston and earned a B.S.N. with high honors from Western Connecticut State University. She also was a magna cum lade graduate of the Master's Degree program in Psychiatric Nursing of Pace University. Jean was nursing supervisor at the Greater Bridgeport Mental Health Center before her retirement. She was a resident of Newtown from 1968 to 1994 before moving to Lake Bomoseen, Vt. Mrs. Leahy is survived by two sons, Timothy Leahy and his wife, Jennifer of Windsor Locks and Christopher Leahy and his wife, Michele of North Andover, Mass.; a daughter, Julie Lenkowski and her husband, David of Middlebury; a sister, Shirley Corcoran and her husband, Donald "Cookie" of Melrose, Mass.; six grandchildren, Molly, Demi, Will, Emma, Olivia, and Aidan; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer's Asso-ciation, CT Chapter, 279 New Britain Rd, Suite 5, Kensington, CT 06037 will be appreciated. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Mom, rest in peace.
