Jane A. Summers
Jane A. Summers, 83, of Carlisle, PA went home to be with the Lord, Monday, November 28, 2016 in Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence. She was born May 8, 1933 in Orbisonia, PA to the late Harrison and Nellie Burkett Steninger, and was the stepdaughter of Helen Steninger. She was the widow of Donald T. Summers Sr.
After marrying and starting a family, she was very proud of completing her bachelor's degree at age 45 from Shippensburg University. She was always extremely involved in her local church, taught Good News Club and Child Evangelism Fellowship. She taught school at Bethel Christian Academy. She also worked as a substitute for various school districts in the area. Jane was a volunteer at Chapel Pointe and the Salvation Army where she led bible study in the senior center and also helped lead worship service. She had a passion for music and loved singing. Jane had a deep abiding love for Christ and passed that on to her children and grandchildren. Even in her final years she continued to share her faith with others.
She is survived by her children, Rev. Daniel S. Summers and wife, Rev. Linda Summers of York Springs, Donald T. Summers Jr. and wife Denise of Wimberly, TX, Kathleen G. Murtoff and husband Gary of Carlisle, and Joel C. Summers of Carlisle; and 16 grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Louis Steninger of Lititz and Larry Steninger of Landisville and was preceded by two sisters, N. Joan Hutchison and Nancy Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 1412 Holly Pike, Carlisle, Pa 17015 with the Rev. Chuck Kish officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday starting at 1:00 PM until the service time in the church. Burial will be in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Memorial Contributions may be made in Jane's memory to The Salvation Army, 20 East Pomfret Street, Carlisle, PA 17013. Arrangements are being handled by Hollinger Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Mt.
