GREENVILLE -- Walter Earl Summers, 83, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at the Everheart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.
He was born on March 10, 1939, in Randolph County, Indiana, to the late Ralph and Mae (McClure) Summers.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis Irene (Minnich) Summers, whom he married on March 15, 1958, and who passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023; his siblings, Evelyn Summers, George Summers, Karen Summers, and Francis Jackson
Walter is survived by his children, Pamela (Terry) Marker of Versailles, Ohio, and Patrick Summers of Greenville, Ohio; his 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; his siblings, Marilyn Smith of Greenville, Oscar "Bill" (Jeannie) Summers of Covington, Paul Summers of Ansonia, and Rosemary (Raymond) Grisez of Versailles.
Walter was a graduate of Franklin Monroe High School. He worked for Corning Glass in Greenville for 37 years until his retirement. Walter was a member of the Stelvideo Christian Church for many years. He was also a member of the Greenville Loyal Order of Moose 329, and the Greenville Fraternal Order of Eagles #2177. Walter enjoyed going camping and playing cards with family and friends. He also loved woodworking and enjoyed making wooden Christmas gifts.
A celebration of Walter's life will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus. Burial will follow in Hollansburg Cemetery.
Guests may visit with his family on Saturday from 2:00 PM until the start of the service at 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the donor's choice.
