Ned S. Baric

Ned passed away peacefully on July 2, 2017 at his home in San Pedro. "Nedjeljko" was born on October 16, 1931 to Sime and Maria Baric, one of seven children, in the small village of Savar, on Dugi Otok in Croatia. In late fall of 1955, Ned escaped from Communism with his young family and sailed in a small fishing boat to Italy in the dark of night. There, the family lived in refugee camps for 2 yrs which were run by the UN and assisted by the Catholic Church until the family's resettlement to Canada, where they lived for the next 9 yrs. In 1966, Ned and his family immigrated to the United States and moved to NYC where they lived briefly before he drove the family across country to California in 1968. Ned finally settled down in 1969 and bought his first home in San Pedro, where he continued to live until his death. Ned took much pleasure in road trips and would frequently drive the family up the coast to Canada to visit relatives. As a life-long Democrat, he was proud to vote in all the elections. Ned had a love-hate relationship with politics and often times, was found arguing with politicians on his television shows. He was known for his green-thumb and planted many fruit trees and vegetables around his home. Ned was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Albina, who took loving care of him and was at his side when he passed; his daughters Damira M. Bacic (Milo), Neda Baric; his son Drago Baric (Susan); four grandchildren, Jeffrey Bacic, Andrea Bacic Zislis (Michael), Alyssa and Justin Baric; four great-grandchildren, Milla, Ben, Sam and Ava Zislis. Ned also leaves behind his sister, Marica Trifunov, and his brother Nevenko Baric (Margaret), as well as many nieces and nephews whom he loved. Special thanks to the many caring Nurses and Doctors of Kaiser, Torrance Memorial and Cedars Sinai (especially Jasminka Stegic, Cardiology Nurse Practitioner), where Ned received his care over the decades. Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 8th at 11:30 am at the Green Hills Chapel in Rancho Palos Verdes. Private interment to follow.
