Anna Dixon Obituary

HAMPTON - Anna Rachel Earl Powers Dixon, 101, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, in the home of her granddaughter, Sara and husband, Dominic, who lovingly cared for her for the last two years. A native of Illinois, her family came to Elko, Va., by train in 1905. She moved with her family to Copeland Park in 1944. In 1975, she married Lloyd, whom she met bowling and had married within four weeks. They spent eight years in Sanford, Fla., before they entered a retirement home in Newport News. She was a member of Grace Baptist Chapel. Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by her first husband of 52 years, Floyd Powers, who passed away in 1973, and her second husband of 19 years, Lloyd Dixon, who passed away in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her children, Junior, Billy Powers, Kathleen Sanford and Dorothy Baldwin; her sister, Mabel Mathews and brother, Harry Earl. She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Joyce Joyce and Betsy Mouring and husband, John; son, Richard Powers and wife, Phyllis; 21 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Charles Taylor at noon today at Grace Baptist Chapel with burial to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Chapel Missionary Fund, 805 Todds Lane, Hampton, VA 23666.
