Francis Shiflett Obituary
Francis was born April 23, 1940 in Louisa County, son of the late Ollie Perry and Elsie Mae Shiflett. He retired from Northrop Grumman, formerly Sperry Marine, after more than 45 years of service. Francis was a proud alumnus of Fork Union Military Academy, Class of 1957,and an avid golfer at Greene Hills Country Club. A lifelong fan of WMHS, UVA, and Washington football teams, Francis relished his seasonal trek to Ernie Bogg's backyard to tailgate with his friends and family at every Hoos home game. Mr. Shiflett played an influential role in the development of the Greene County Rescue Squad and Rapidan Service Authority. He married Mae Elizabeth Garth on October 12, 1963 in Stanardsville, where they built their home on Madison Road.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jody Vaughn Shiflett and his wife, Cheryl, of Virginia Beach and Jamie Cordell Shiflett and his wife, Kelle, of Yorktown; three grandsons, Campbell Peyton Shiflett, Owen Parker Shiflett, and Jackson Cole Shiflett; two granddaughters, Bailey Garth Shiflett and Reese Elizabeth Shiflett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Randolph Perry Shifflett and sister, Bonnie Kay Greenbaum.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Preddy Funeral Home in Madison with the Rev. John Hawkins Jr. officiating. A private family burial will be held in Holly Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Greene County EMS, P.O. Box 358, Stanardsville, VA 22973 in honorarium.

Now he was a character!! LOL with nothing less than fond memories! Francis was the prankster in the Purchasing Department. It was nothing to come back to your desk & find that he had moved something, rigged something or put a whoopie balloon in your chair. He would start a conversation to distract you from noticing, then, wham. HE GOT YOU! That 10 years that I spent working with him & the crew in Purchasing were some of the happiest times in my life! And, he LOOOOVED his family! I knew Jody & Jamie & never even met them. Mae was his pride & Joy. He'd go on & on about her golf skills & how much he loved her as his wife. Like I said, I knew them & never even met them! RIP my friend!

found Francis i am so dissappointed i did not know he passed last October 2022.
He never was recently aware how often i thought of him and how much i appreciated his friendship and constatly helping me do my conferences over many years. The picture in my dining room was taken by him
A friend i knew for over 25 years thought of him often.

Sadden to hear the passing of Francis. My condolences to The Family. I had served over six years in the Army National Guard with Francis. We had many many discussions about our County, State & Country. He was a true Patriot!

So sorry for your loss. I worked with Francis from 1988 until he retired from NG/ Sperry Marine. I always enjoyed talking to Francis & the laughs we shared. A really good guy who will be missed. RIP Francis.
