Sadly,David Carroll Douglas, age 68, of Newark, DE, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 23, 2004 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, DE. He left this earth to take his place in Heaven. Mr. Douglas was born December 22, 1935 in North Wilkesboro, NC and moved to Newark in the early 1940s where he lived the rest of his life. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Douglaswas a local leader in the field of cosmetology, who began as a hair stylist in 1960 and was educated in New York, London and Toronto. He opened his first of several salons in 1962, and later won numerous honors and awards. In 1977, Mr. Douglasfounded the Schilling Douglas School of Hair Design in Newark, where he continued as president. He served as a board member for the National Association of Accredited Cosmetology Schools. A well-respected member of the business community, he dedicated much of his time to educating others. He was also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Mr. Douglas was a talented artist who enjoyed painting and woodcarving and won many ribbons at regional and national waterfowl carving exhibitions. He especially enjoyed spending time in South Bethany Beach where he had many dear friends. His greatest treasure was the love of his family, especially his 36-year marriage to his best friend and love of his life, Sandra L. Wassmuth Douglas. He is also survived by his daughter, Nicole Swann and her husband, Kim, of Newark; son, Victor David of Landenberg, PA; son, Douglas David, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Raleigh, NC; his mother, Fern Hadley of Newark; brother, Charles David and his wife, Betty, of Salt Springs, FL; mother- and father-in-law, Joseph and Violet Marchetti of Newark; and his nieces, nephew and grandchildren. Mr. Douglas touched many lives in which he made a profound difference and he will be missed immeasurably by all. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, July 29, 2004, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Avenue, Newark. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
