David Hellyer Obituary

David "Dave" Bruce Hellyer lost a seven-month battle with lung cancer on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.
Memorials: Laura and Dave have asked that donations be made to Lighthouse Hospice, 1250 Copeland Rd., Ste. 450, Arlington, Texas 76011, or your local animal shelter.
Dave was born Feb. 9, 1944, in Amarillo to Alvin and Clara Hellyer. Dave graduated from Victoria High School in Victoria in May 1963 and was a gifted student and athlete. Dave spent most of his career in the floor covering business. Dave worked for Swiff-Train in San Antonio, and WW Henry in Houston and San Antonio. Dave then formed his own company, Southwest Sales, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with his wife, Laura. Dave and Laura spent the past five years retired in Granbury.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Clara Hellyer; and stepfather, Tony Fowler.
The family would like to thank Lighthouse Hospice of Arlington for the extraordinary care and compassion they showed Dave in his final days, and for the support they continue to provide for Laura. Special thanks go to Donna, Cathy and Michelle of Lighthouse Hospice for without their kindness, this very difficult time would have been unbearable.
Survivors: His loving wife and best friend for 23 years, Laura; his brother, Fred L. Hellyer, and sister-in-law, Rosemary, of San Antonio; son, Michael B. Hellyer of Cheyenne, Wyo.; son, Bryan David Hellyer of San Antonio; five grandchildren; and numerous friends.
