Eleanor Langley Obituary

Eleanor Claire Bagby Langley, 83, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, surrounded by her loving husband and children. She succumbed to the complications of a stroke suffered on Dec. 21. She had been in slow but successful recovery from a stroke suffered Sept. 25.
Memorial service and reception will be held in her honor at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, 1200 S. Collins.
Memorials: The family requests that no flowers be sent. All those who wish to make a donation in her name may do so to First Presbyterian Church of Arlington; Area Agency on Aging; or to the United Way, which has been tireless and extremely supportive in her time of need.
Eleanor was the second oldest of four children born to Orla and Janet Bagby in August 1924. She and her brothers, Ross Kenneth, Ralph Donald and sister, Marjorie Nada Fern, were all born and raised in the family's farm house on South Beckley Avenue in what is now Oak Cliff. Eleanor enjoyed a happy childhood on the family farm, hardly noticing they were in the midst of a national depression. She graduated from Lancaster High School, salutatorian of her class of 1941.
During the war years, she helped her mother and sister run the farm while her father and brothers answered the call to duty. She spent one year at North Texas State College in 1945-46. In 1948 she married Walter Harold Stone of Peterborough, N.H. Over the next decade, she gave birth to her three children, Edward Bryan, Natalie Gail and Walter Keith.
After returning to El Centro College in 1964, she spent the next 26 years working as a mainframe computer programmer for 13 years at El Centro, then 13 years at the University of Texas at Arlington, from which she retired in 1992.
Eleanor had spent 17 years with Donald Eggleston, having taken his name at their marriage in 1985, when he passed away in the early spring of 1992. In September 1997, she wed John Langley of Everman. They had just celebrated their 10th anniversary.
Survivors: Her loving husband, John; her sons, Bryan of Jasper, Keith of Anacortes, Wash.; her daughter, Natalie Russ of San Diego, Calif.; and her grandson, Eric Bryan Stone of Dickinson.

Eleanor was such an inspiration to me. John, we enjoyed your friendship while you lived in Burleson. I have thought of you often. I saw you at Sandy's funeral but did not get to talk to you. I know you will miss Eleanor. She was such a delightful person and I know you loved her very much.
My prayers are with you

My family shall deeply miss our dear Aunt Elanor. She was a delightfully vibrant woman and very active.

"Auntie El" danced, sang, traveled, camped, worshipped, and somehow found time to "be there" for all those who needed her. John was a rock for her, especially after the Sept. 25th stroke. He literally slept at the hospital all but one night, and was ALWAYS there to love and support his beloved wife.

Her family is being amazed at the depth and breath of her friendship circle, and surrounded by loving and caring folks. Unfortunately, we were unable to get back from a car trip in California for her Memorial service Thurs @ 11Am 1st Presby of Arlington. We shall send a memorial to United Way at her childrens' suggestion.

Aunt Eleanor is a treasured part of my life. My heart goes out to Keith, Bryan and Natalie, but especially to Uncle John. The hurting never goes away, but you do learn to deal with it over time. She was a lady who always offered sound advice, inclusive Christ-like love and an open mind. I will always cherish her presence in my life and thank God for it.
God's Peace,
Burton
